A year after finishing 'L'Amante del Vampiro'(1960), Polselli started to make a movie entitled 'Il Vampiro dell'Opera', which was eventually finished and released in 1964 as 'Il Mostro dell'Opera'. Based on Gaston Leroux's 'Phantom', the story opens well with a group of actors entering a disused opera house and becoming increasingly edgy as as they begin to sense its uncanny atmosphere. A woman follows a mysterious stranger into the basement and disappears only to return as an enchantingly disturbing vampire. The rest of the picture chronicles her seductions of the women and then of the man in the group, limping on to the predictable final conflagration. When tension building has to give way to delivering shocks in the film's half, Polselli seems to lose interest and allows the movie to shoot erotic films, including 'Riti, Magie Nere e Segrete Orgie del Trecento', usually hiding under the pseudonym Ralph Brown.
