On the strange island of Nomen Tuum, incubi and succubi entice the sinful visitors who come looking to drink from a magical well that can heal the sick and make a person more beautiful. Kia (Allyson Ames) is tired of her job as a succubus of killing the corrupt so that their souls can be offered to the God of Darkness and wants to try using her powers to corrupt someone of pure heart. She sets her sights on a young soldier named Marc (William Shatner) who, along with his sister Arndis (Ann Atmar), has come to the island to heal his war wounds. What Kia doesn't count on is falling in love.
Incubus is based on a screenplay written by American screenwriter Leslie Stevens, who also directed the film. The entire movie is in Esperanto with English subtitles.
An incubus is a male demon who has intercourse with a sleeping human female, sometimes with the intent of impreganting her, othertimes with the intent of death. The female counterpart is a succubus.
Esperanto is a planned language devised by Polish (of Jewish origin) ophthalmologist and linguist L.L. Zamenhof in 1887 to foster harmony between people from different countries. The vocabulary stems mostly from the Romance/Latin languages with additional input from Germanic, Slavic, and Greek languages. Its grammar and syntax are very simplified and have no exceptions.
Mortally wounded from his fight with the incubus (Milos Milos) and in hopes of saving his soul, Marc makes his way to the cathedral. Kia begs him to come away with her, but Marc refuses, insisting that his soul belongs to God, not to her. Realizing that she loves Marc, Kia follows him. Amael (Eloise Hardt) tries to stop her, but Kia pushes her away and continues on to the cathedral, where Marc fading fast. Unable to enter the cathedral, Kia is suddenly faced by the incubus, who reminds her that she belongs to the Lord of Darkness. Kia makes the sign of the cross, and the incubus is replaced by a large black goat who wrestles her to the ground, goring her with his horns. "I belong to the God of Light!", she exclaims, and the goat backs away. In the final scene, Kia crawls to the cathedral door and stretches out her hand to Marc. He takes her hand and pulls her into his arms, while the goat watches them.
