| Plot Summary |
Having returned to his birthplace--a rugged small village plagued by poverty and superstition--after a missed opportunity to create a better future in Germany, illiterate shepherd Thanos dreams of emigrating to far-off Australia. However, with his mother standing in the way of a new life, hell-bent on marrying him off to Despina, the pampered daughter of the community's most prominent and wealthy member, rebellion is brewing.
