For years, viewers invited Chris Wiggins into their living rooms to hear his vast knowledge of all things occult on Friday the 13th: The Series, so it is with great sadness that we inform readers that the actor has passed away in Ontario at the age of 87 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
According to THR, the news of Wiggins' passing was recently shared in an obituary published in the Toronto Star. His family has requested that loved ones and fans donate to the Alzheimer Society in place of purchasing flowers for his memorial service in mid-March.
Wiggins is perhaps best remembered for his aforementioned role as Jack Marshak in Friday the 13th: The Series. As fans know, instead of Jason Voorhees, the series focused on cursed antiques that had to be tracked down, and Wiggins' character was absolutely vital in helping Micki Foster and Ryan Dallion on their quests,...

Sons of Anarchy and Wired Karl Sutter has been chatting about his The Punisher movie script that never got made...
Marvel’s The Punisher is a killing machine bent on revenge. He watched as his family became collateral damage in a mob war and vowed to wipe out organised crime. He didn’t have a badge, but was a battle trained ex-Marine with a full arsenal of killing skills.

He was initially brought to life on the big screen by Dolph Lundgren in 1989 and was played by Thomas Jane in the 2004 film The Punisher. More than any other superhero (except maybe the Fantastic Four), Spider-Man has had a strange cinematic journey. With two reboots in less than four years, some wondered if audiences would suffer from Peter Parker fatigue. How many times could Uncle Ben possibly die before fans just stopped showing up? Then Marvel added the latest Spider-Man (Tom Holland) to Captain America: Civil War, and suddenly everything clicked into place. This was the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man from the comics. A poor kid from Queens caught between saving the world and World History homework, his suit funded by a billionaire to explain its high-tech nature. Image Credit: Marvel Entertainment Introducing Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was only step one. As part of the custody agreement with Sony, Peter has to spend weekends and holidays his solo films with them. Thus Spider-Man: Homecoming was born. Very little is known about Holland’s first solo outing in the Spider-suit.

Deadpool? Who the heck is Deadpool? What the heck is a Deadpool?
That’s Deadpool? Looks like he’s wearing a costume that Spider-Man gave to the Salvation Army. Superhero, huh? With his own movie. It made how much? A hundred and thirty-five million dollars opening weekend? American money?
Yeah, I didn’t see Deadpool coming either. Oh sure, I caught some of the television commercials, but nothing on the screen made me want to plunk down the price of admission. I thought that maybe I’d watch it on cable, maybe some night after Marifran’s crashed. Or maybe we’d watch it together. Some time. Maybe.
Deadpool is not exactly a household name, like Superman or Spider-Man. Despite a connection with the über-popular X-Men, I doubt that Deadpool has penetrated the public consciousness – or at least he hadn’t, before all those TV ads.
Now? Bet the mortgage...

Comic-Con 2015: Exclusive Interview with Scooby-doo! And Kiss: Rock And Roll Mystery’s Kevin Shinick
Generations of TV viewers have watched Scooby-Doo and the gang solve many a mystery with a wide variety of guests ranging from the Harlem Globetrotters to the Addams family, but they team up with a legendary rock band in Scooby-Doo! & Kiss: Rock & Roll Mystery, which is now available on Digital HD and comes out on Blu-ray and DVD July 21st from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. At Comic-Con, Daily Dead caught up with Scooby-Doo! & Kiss: Rock & Roll Mystery screenwriter Kevin Shinick.
When did your love for Scooby-Doo begin?
Kevin Shinick: I can't pinpoint where it started, because my interest in it has been around for so long, and it's the same thing with Kiss. I remember being in elementary school and loving Kiss and loving Scooby-Doo. Subconsciously I've been working on this screenplay for decades and now I've finally had a chance to put it down onto paper.
That was a staple.

My beloved Chicago Bears are a team in turmoil. After installing a new head coach roughly two seasons ago, the team has simply never gelled since. This being in spite of fielding a team that is built beautifully on paper. Suffice to say as a fan, I’m left crushed and crestfallen.
But whereas die-hard football fans would simply spend the remaining time of the current season hatewatching games and greedily predicting the firing of staff, I myself am choosing a path of less anguish. No denial, anger, bargaining, depression, or really even acceptance. I’m choosing instead the art of distraction. Ok, sure I bet that files under denial, but c’mon: I’m not denying my Bears blew this season in all three phases of the game. Rather than wallow in it, I think it’s a better use of my time to use my somewhat encyclopedic knowledge...

Falling Skies ends season 4 with a decent enough double-bill but is really starting to show its age. Here's Ron's review...
This review contains spoilers.
4.11 Space Oddity & 4.12 Shoot The Moon
Increasingly, there's been a trend among television shows to turn season finales from a single episode into a big event. In some cases, they actually film a two-hour episode and make it a legitimate special event. More commonly, the big finale event is just two episodes shown back to back, perhaps with a little editing to make them flow together a bit better (or to cut out the recap). In the case of Falling Skies, you get two back-to-back episodes to finish off the fourth season and pave the way for the show's final season next summer. The episodes covered a lot of ground, and I debated with myself for entirely too long how to best handle the review. In the end,...

On a cold night in January, George R.R. Martin sits inside the Jean Cocteau Cinema, a revival theater that he owns in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he has lived since 1979. The Cinema had been showing the first three seasons of HBO's megahit series Game of Thrones, which is based on Martin's still-in-the-works saga A Song of Ice and Fire. After viewing the ninth episode, "Baelor," in which the story's apparent hero, Ned Stark, is unexpectedly beheaded, with the screen falling to black, Martin sits quietly for several moments,...

For all the “brave” or “risky” movie projects Annapurna Pictures backs, this one might be their biggest dare so far. When was the last time there was an R-rated animated film in wide-release theaters for adults? Aside from the Ralph Bakshi films from the 1970s, the “Heavy Metal" movie in the 1980s and after 1999's "South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut," the pickins are pretty slim (and we're talking theatrical, not DVD releases). Animated films are mostly the domain of kids movies, but Annapurna does have quite the project in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s “Sausage Party.” The animated project now has a release date of June 3, 2016, one week before Sony’s own “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.” The voice cast, which is already kind of loaded, absurd and talented and just added Paul Rudd and Danny McBride. What’s it about? Well, it’s a raunchy comedy about a sausage...

Marc Webb is a lucky man. Not just because of the lucrative The Amazing Spider-Man 2 paycheck that’s headed his way. Or the fact that he has finally put an end to the hotly debated “nuh uh, Spider-Man could totally beat Rhino, Electro and the Green Goblin if he wanted to” standoffs of his childhood. Webb’s lucky that he’s even been able to make a Spider-Man movie at all. Because slingin’ ain’t easy. Not for Spider-Man, and not for the trail of corpses that dot his long and troublesome road to the big screen. Not human corpses, obviously (if there actually was a trail of bodies left in the wake of a Spider-Man movie, you’d probably hear about it on a site slightly more serious than this one), but the desiccated remains of countless Spider-screenplays and Spider-pitches, which for one reason or another just couldn’t cut it in the big leagues...

The great cartoonist/provocateur Robert Crumb disowned this 1972 film based on his comic strip about the low-down adventures of a randy tom-cat. Clearly a labor of love for director Ralph Bakshi, he spent years finding backing and several more years producing it. With the help of long-time Disney animator Edwin Aardal (Fantasia), Bakshi finds a reasonable approximation of Crumb’s densely populated visual style but he doesn’t capture the passive-aggressive humor of the misanthropic artist’s shaggy-dog storytelling. The movie flaunted its adults only rating (“We’re not rated X for nothin’, baby!”), not only to cement its counter-culture cred but to distance itself from more juvenile animation fare. Producer Steve Krantz began his career in animation with the bottom-of-the-barrel syndicated shows, The Mighty Thor and Spider-Man in 1966-67. Nsfw!

Sony has released a new poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that pays homage to a classic The Amazing Spider-Man comic book cover by John Romita Sr., which you can see below. The cover was for issue #121, called “Turning Point,” and it evokes a sense of the pressure Spider-Man is under as he tries to balance the various demands of the supporting characters. The poster does the same thing less successfully. I wish they had done something like the opening credits of Spider-Man 2 and illustrated the people, because the head shots on the graphic background make it look like a flier for a seminar. But I do like what they are going for here. It is slightly more ambitious than some recent movie posters.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
Scroll a little bit carefully, because I’m putting some possible spoiler-ish speculation below the original cover.

Marvel TV are currently in development on a "Luke Cage" TV series, based on the Marvel Comics' character.
Created by "Creepy" magazine writer/editor Archie Goodwin and illustrator John Romita, Sr. of "Spider-Man" fame, 'Luke Cage' first appeared in Marvel Comics' "Luke Cage, Hero for Hire" #1 (June 1972) :
"...A man called 'Lucas' was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. In exchange for parole, Lucas clandestinely underwent an experimental procedure, originally intended to generate immunity to all illness; instead, it inadvertently granted him steel-hard skin and heavier, enhanced muscle.
"After escaping 'Seagate Prison', Lucas forged the identity of 'Luke Cage', becoming a 'hero for hire', super-enhanced private detective.
"Later he formed a business partnership with the martial arts hero known as 'Iron Fist' in the Marvel Comics' series "Power Man & Iron Fist" and had a baby with 'Jessica Jones'.."

“With no power comes no responsibility.” Gleefully riffing on the teen angst horse pucky of Spider-Man and Marvel’s other teen superheroes, Matthew Vaughn’s 2010 movie Kick-Ass took Mark Millar and John Romita Jr’s comic book about an ordinary, everyday comic book-loving nerd styling himself as a masked have-a-go-superhero vigilante, rounded off its nastier edges, courtesy of screenwriter Jane Goldman, and delivered a fun, violent, gloriously foul-mouthed shot of adrenaline that celebrated the superhero genre even as it satirised it and made a star of the wonderful Chloe Grace Moretz who f- & c-bombed her way into our hearts. Then Vaughn and Goldman turned around and ruined everything by making the po-faced X-Men: The Wonder Years.
Taking up pretty much where the first film left off, Kick-Ass 2 sees Dave/Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) still playing superhero while the orphaned Mindy/Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), now living...

New York — Spider-Man, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk can continue to reside in Marvel's offices after a federal appeals court on Thursday rejected an ownership claim by the children of the artist who helped create them.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan agreed with a lower court judge who denied claims by the family of Jack Kirby, the legendary artist who died in 1994 and whose work spanned more than half a century.
His heirs in California and New York wanted to terminate Marvel's copyrights from 2014 through 2019 to comics published from 1958 to 1963.
Marvel Worldwide Inc. sued in January 2010 to prevent it, leading U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon in July 2011 to conclude the work was done "for hire," a legal term that rendered the heirs' claims invalid.
She said the 1909 copyright law that applies to the case presumed that Marvel was considered the author and owner...

Marvel is relaxing on Thursday after an appeals court affirmed a ruling that work made by comic book legend Jack Kirby falls under an employment context known as "work made for hire," which means it won't be eligible for termination. Kirby's estate attempted to send notices of termination to Marvel and its licensees Sony, Fox and Universal over such iconic creations as Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and others. Represented by Marc Toberoff, the estate did so with an eye on exploiting a provision of copyright law that allows authors another bite of the apple by

Of all the upcoming superhero movies, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has been the not-telling-you-who-this-actor-is-playing-est of them all. Right now, Sarah Gadon, Felicity Jones and Colm Feore are all playing mystery roles. We're also not sure how Goblin-y Chris Cooper and Dane DeHaan will get, and we haven't heard anything else regarding B.J. Novak's quick appearance on-set.
As frustrating as that may be for fans and bloggers alike, director Marc Webb recently revealed to Total Film that that's all part of his masterplan.
"Anything you expect [about who these actors are playing], you'll be surprised," he said. "To be totally honest, I intentionally conceal these things because I want people to be engaged and surprised when they see the film and experience it for the first time. It's not like 'Harry Potter' or 'Twilight' necessarily where you know the stories."
"And we are constructing them from elements of the comics obviously, from the canon,...
