Curiosités

Anecdotes:
The castle set in Yugoslavia blew up and burned to the ground. It was quite a surprise to the cast and crew. Sydney Pollack immediately grabbed the camera and shot what he could of the burning castle. suite
Goofs:
Revealing mistakes: When the tank pursues the bazooka team into the church, a close-up of the bazooka's muzzle immediately before it fires clearly shows that the tube is hollow and the weapon is therefore not loaded. suite
Guillemet:
Maj. Abraham Falconer: When the German tanks get here, we'll have a reception. They're brave sons of bitches, and we should not allow their heroic actions to go unsung. They should all have a cocktail!
Red Queen: Cocktail?
Maj. Abraham Falconer: Cognac bottle filled with gasoline.

A wonderful little gem of war movie, 15 October 2003
10/10
Author: tinmanxi

Almost incidentally about war, it features a delightful supporting role by Falk, a subdued and powerful Lancaster, a literate script and Sydney Pollack's sure hand at quirky story telling. It may be the best American film nobody ever heard of.
