Early in the film, David passes a piece of graffiti that reads "H.D. Stanton", a reference to Jack Nicholson's friend, actor Harry Dean Stanton.
Al Pacino was personally offered the role of David by Bob Rafelson. He turned it down to act in The Godfather (1972).
This was Julia Anne Robinson's only major film role. She died in an apartment fire two years after its release.
