Argentine director Luján Loioco is prepping her third feature film, “Queen of the Woods” (“Reina del bosque”), starring Chile’s venerable Alfredo Castro, seen most recently in Pablo Larrain’s Oscar-nominated “El Conde,” and rising Argentine actress Delfina Chaves.
The story takes place in a cabin set against the snow-covered Patagonian mountains and is described as a “neo-horror feminine film that explores the failed relationship between a pregnant woman and her dying father.” Through the gripping mechanisms of thriller and neo-horror, the film delves deep into the theme of grief while posing unsettling reflections on the complexities of motherhood.
Principal photography is slated to start mid-2024 for a film that stands as a testament to the rise of women filmmakers in Latin America and their creative prowess.

The former Beatles found new collaborators as often as most of us change our clothes. Elton John co-wrote one of Ringo Starr’s biggest songs with another classic rock legend. John tailored the track for Ringo while his co-writer said it reminded him of one of The Beatles’ most famous tracks. While Ringo’s track was huge in the United States, it didn’t make a dent in the United Kingdom.
Elton John wanted 1 of Ringo Starr’s songs to have ‘very Ringo-type lyrics’
John wrote many of his most famous tunes with lyricist Bernie Taupin, including “Your Song,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Candle in the Wind.” During a 1974 interview with Rolling Stone, John discussed working on a song with Taupin for a former Beatle.
“We’ve also written a song for Ringo, ‘Snookeroo,'” he said. “He said, ‘Listen, make it nice and commercial,’ so we did. Bernie wrote really simple lyrics,...

John Lennon didn’t think he was the most thoughtful musical producer in the world, but he called out Ringo Starr’s producer for being “too painstaking.” That’s quite the take, considering the producer in question gave us some of Ringo’s best albums. He was also behind popular tunes from Carly Simon and Harry Nilsson.
John Lennon slammed Ringo Starr’s producer, Richard Perry
During a 1975 interview with Rolling Stone, John said rumors that he took a long time to complete The Beatles’ songs were false. “I don’t want to make myself so painstaking that it’s boring,” he said. “But I should (pause) maybe t’ink a little more. Maybe.
“But on the other hand I think my criticism of somebody like Richard Perry would be that he’s great but he’s too painstaking,” he said. “It gets too slick and somewhere in between that...

In 1965, a jeering audience at a Bob Dylan concert asked the musician where Ringo Starr was. This wasn’t because they had expected to see the Beatles’ drummer join him onstage. Instead, they were using his name to express their displeasure with Dylan. They felt he had turned his back on them to embrace a more Beatles-style sound.

In 1965, Dylan invited Canadian band the Hawks to join him at a concert in Queens, New York. He played his typical acoustic set before an intermission, and then he brought the band onstage with him.

One of Ringo Starr’s albums embraces funk and disco music. The album was not a huge hit at the time. The record makes more sense in light of a late 1970s trend in classic rock.
Ringo Starr’s albums took a turn for the worse in the mid-1970s. Notably, Ringo wasn’t fond of a disco album he produced in 1977. Despite this, Ringo rerecorded the most famous song from the record in a different genre.
Ringo Starr’s albums got worse after ‘Goodnight Vienna,’ according to Ringo
Ringo had a few hit albums in the 1970s. He peaked with the 1973 album Ringo, which features the No. 1 singles “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen.” His following record, Goodnight Vienna, was a hit as well, producing the hits “Only You (And You Alone)” and “No No Song.” Then, he made the forgotten album Ringo’s Rotogravure and the disco/funk album Ringo the 4th.

When The Beatles broke up, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon were on one side of the divide, while Paul McCartney was on the other. McCartney sued the band in order to wrest control from manager Allen Klein. The split and legal battle meant the dynamic between the former bandmates was a stormy one. Starr wanted to maintain a friendly working relationship with his former bandmates, though. While he trusted that Lennon and Harrison would continue collaborating with him, he didn’t know if McCartney would.
Ringo Starr worried his working relationship with Paul McCartney was over
After the death of longtime Beatles manager Brian Epstein, the band hired Klein. McCartney wasn’t happy with this decision, though. He wanted to hire Lee Eastman, his father-in-law, something the rest of the band stood firmly against. These business dealings muddied their musical relationship, and by 1970, they had announced their breakup.

In 1970, The Beatles publicly announced their break up, and Ringo Starr wrote a song about his former bandmates. In each verse, he sang about his bandmates and wondered about the likelihood of them playing music with him. By the end of the song, he expressed his earnest hope that they’d all collaborate again. The song functioned as an open letter to the ex-Beatles, but Starr never truly had much cause for concern.

After The Beatles decided to break up, the former bandmates began working on their solo careers. Starr’s first solo single, “It Don’t Come Easy,” came out in 1971. The B-side of this single was the song “Early 1970.” In it, Starr addressed each of his bandmates in turn.

Ringo Starr’s “You’re Sixteen” came out when the former Beatle was 33 years old. The tune’s lyrics are terrible and it sounds terrible. The track still became a top 10 hit in the United States and the United Kingdom. Ringo Starr | John Pratt / Stringer
Ringo Starr‘s “You’re Sixteen” is one of his most famous classic rock songs. Despite this, it’s also awful in more ways than one. The tune still became a massive hit.
Ringo Starr’s ‘You’re Sixteen’ is questionable like The Beatles’ ‘I Saw Her Standing There’
There’s nothing wrong with writing love songs about teenagers as long as you yourself are a teenager. Even then, you should not sing romantic lyrics about anyone too much younger than yourself. Ringo broke all these rules when he performed “You’re Sixteen” when he was 33.
The lyrics of the song are just gross.

John Lennon was the least emotional member of The Beatles. He rarely complimented his bandmates and often wrote many of the band’s more dour songs. However, he once gave Ringo Starr a song to sing, which Paul McCartney said showed his “tender side.”

“Good Night” is a song from The Beatles’ The White Album written by John Lennon, but features Ringo Starr on lead vocals. In an interview with David Sheff, Lennon said he initially wrote the tune for his son, Julian, but he decided to give it to Starr.
‘Good Night’ was written for Julian, the way ‘Beautiful Boy’ was written for Sean… but given to Ringo and possibly overlush,” Lennon said.
In a 1968 interview, Starr noted that the song sounded very different from anything else Lennon has written.

George Harrison wasn’t exactly sure if he felt like a Beatle in 1967, but he was “willing to go along with it.” Throughout his time with the group, George never felt like “Beatle George.” That was just a suit he sometimes put on, although reluctantly at the end.

After The Beatles broke up, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr set off on separate careers. While they would work together sporadically over the years, they were now solo artists. This was uncharted territory for them, but they all found success. Starr said that his former bandmates were shocked when his music hit number one.

52 years after it was first produced, a rare piece of Beatles history is available on YouTube. A Christmas compilation Paul McCartney created for his bandmates has been uploaded online.
The compilation is titled Unforgettable, and it is believed that only three copies of it were ever printed: one each for John, George, and Ringo, who received it on acetate discs as Christmas presents in 1965. On the album, McCartney plays the role of DJ, introducing each of the compiled songs and adding in some improv of his own. "And so in this program, Unforgettable, we hope that you are not gonna forget us and are gonna join in," McCartney riffs in his introduction.
Unforgettable takes its name from the Nat King Cole number that leads it off. Other songs featured in the compilation include "I Get Around" by The Beach Boys and "Don't Be Cruel" by Elvis Presley.

A long time ago, a grade-schooler got his hands on a spaceship. He followed the assembly instructions as best he could, snapping on the cannons, the landing gear, the tiny interstellar-chess table. Soon enough, Rian Johnson was holding his very own Millennium Falcon. "The first thing I did," he recalls, "was throw it across the room, to see how it would look flying." He grins. "And it broke."

For those of us who weren’t lucky enough to attend a Beatles concert in the 1960s, Ron Howard’s Eight Days a Week just might be the next best thing. The 2016 documentary traces the band’s rise from a cramped and dank cellar in Liverpool to record breaking television appearances, jam packed stadiums, and—ultimately—rock immortality. Lovingly assembled through rare and often unseen fan home movie footage, Howard’s film also draws on more familiar material—restored to the highest echelons of HD— and new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. All told, it’s a joyous...

The holiday season is nearly upon us, and anyone with a yen to perform should seriously consider asking Santa for a fraction of Ringo Starr‘s musicianship, stamina and stage presence. Creating culture within science-fiction can be tricky. It’s potentially alienating, with the audience required to understand allusions without a reference point. Then again, if you throw in too many contemporary references, the future starts to look dated pretty quickly. Red Dwarf has walked that fine line, building its own stars and entertainment but chucking in the familiar, just to keep the world grounded. We take a look at humanity’s future culture as seen through the eyes of Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten and Holly.

July 7 is an important day, but not just because it’s my birthday. July 7 is also Ringo Starr’s birthday. He turned 77, and I turned 25. Every year for his birthday, Ringo organizes a “peace and love celebration.” The point of it is exactly what its name suggests: to promote peace, love and overall good vibrations. (Oops, I accidentally made a Beach Boys reference when we’re talking about one of the Beatles.) It’s both a live and a virtual event. Ringo makes a personal appearance in one city (usually Los Angeles) while simultaneously extending an invitation to the rest of.

The music icon will celebrate turning 77 on July 7 (talk about a lucky birthday!) by inviting the world to come together in a moment of peace, love and unity. Starr himself will be in front of the famous Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles, but don’t feel like you have to make the trip. A straw poll of the average music fan on what the biggest British albums of all time are is likely to consist of: Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd; (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis; probably 21 by Adele; maybe Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits; Queen’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1, perhaps; but most definitely, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. The latter of these has reached the grand old age of fifty, and so in way of celebration has been remastered and re-released in a sparkly new boxed set, which also includes a plethora of alternative recordings, outtakes and interviews, over four CDs and two DVDs and 100 minutes of extra footage. Imagine the 1995 release of The Beatles era defining anthology series, but focused purely on 1967. The release is also supported by a feature length documentary, directed by long time Beatles fan Alan G. Parker...

Imagine finding one of van Gogh’s early sketches for “Starry Night,” or a rough draft of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. For anyone who loves music, the mammoth 50th anniversary reissue of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is just as good—if not better. The expanded package includes nearly two hours worth of outtakes from the groundbreaking 1967 sessions, offering not only an alternate-universe look at some of the most beloved tracks in the rock canon, but also a fascinating fly-on-the-wall view of four young artists at the height of their power.

From A Hard Day's Night to Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine and Help!, we revisit the original Beatles films...
Of all the art that the Beatles brought into the world, their cinematic misadventures are probably less fondly remembered than their music. But in addition to 12 studio albums, 13 EPs, and 22 singles, the Fab Four also released five films in their comparatively few years together. These efforts comprised two feature films, a TV movie, a cartoon, and a documentary, all of admittedly inconsistent quality. Looking back now, these films provide a fascinating insight into the phenomenon of Beatlemania.

Paul McCartney took the term “solo album” to the next level on his first release following the dissolution of the Beatles in 1970. The multi-talented musician played every instrument on the appropriately titled McCartney, drawing on skills he’d honed through years serving as the group’s utility man — mastering guitar, bass, piano, and even drums. (That’s him, not Ringo Starr, behind the kit on “Back in the U.S.S.R,” “Dear Prudence,” and “The Ballad of John and Yoko.”)
The one-man-band approach was temporarily retired after he formed Wings in 1971, but McCartney continued to play a variety of instruments throughout his career.

By the late-1980s, Paul McCartney may have been the only artist on the planet uninterested in sounding like the Beatles. But then his new collaborator, fellow British superstar Elvis Costello, reunited him with an old friend: his iconic violin-shaped Hofner bass. The instrument had last seen action during the band’s final live performance on the roof of their London offices almost two decades before, and a faded setlist from their last tour remained affixed to the side with yellowed scotch tape. “He was a big Beatles fan and said, ‘Hey, do you still use your Hofner?’” McCartney tells People exclusively.

Chicago – Scott Freiman is an entrepreneur, producer, composer and musicologist, and turned his primary passion – painstakingly delving into the song production techniques of The Beatles – into a series of lectures called “Deconstructing The Beatles.” He has turned those lectures into films, and “Deconstructing The Beatles Sgt. Pepper Album” will screen in Chicago at area Landmark Cinemas on February 6th, 2017.
The 50th anniversary of the release of the album “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” will be June 1st, 1967, and the record marked a crossover of sorts for the Fab Four, from the mop-top image of their early career to the introspective studio musicians in the second half of their collaboration. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr had just finished their last live show in August of 1966, and launched Sgt. Pepper amid rumors that they were finished as a band. “Pepper” was universally popular, and was the number one album in the U.

Moments ago, I shared with you a newly-released promotional still for Justice League that shows off The Flash (Ezra Miller), Batman (Ben Affleck), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), standing around in all of their demigod glory. That photo came courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, which is owned by DC Comics parent company Warner Bros.
Included in an upcoming preview feature for Justice League in EW is this fun little quote from Miller about the role he feels his Flash plays on the Justice League team:
“Flash is Ringo Starr. He annoys everybody, but he doesn’t have any specific beef with anyone. Uncle Fish Curry [Aquaman] is very grumpy. Dad [Batman] gets grumpy too. (He’s had a long life of fighting crime.) Wonder Woman is very considerate, so even though she’s annoyed with the Flash, she’s still very compassionate.”

In an age where we have gone so far as to add the word “selfies” to the Oxford Dictionary, Harry Benson: Shoot First is a vital reminder of what it’s really like to take a picture. Yes, it’s time to get on that soapbox. When Paul McCartney shocked the world in April 1970 with his announcement of the Beatles' break-up, drummer Ringo Starr added a surprise of his own by becoming (initially, at least) the most musically active member of the former Fab Four.
As he would later recount in the lyrics of "Early 1970," the deceptively jaunty b-side of his 1971 hit "It Don't Come Easy," Starr was the only Beatle who didn't have any serious beef with any other member of the band at the time. Feeling lost without the family dynamic of the musical...

There’s not a lot new here, but the vintage footage is fab, as is the much-needed reminder that the supposedly innocent past was hardly innocent at all. I’m “biast” (pro): love the Beatles’s music (who doesn’t?)

There’s a real overlap in sensibility between director and subject in the new documentary about the Fab Four. Ron Howard is a studio craftsman who specializes in crowd-pleasing entertainment, and his new film The Beatles: Eight Days A Week focuses on the band during their crowd-pleasing years: the era between 1962 and 1966 when they toured the world, delivering smiling and effervescent performances to throngs of shrieking fans. John, Paul, George, and Ringo had yet to rebel against the cheeky and appealing let’s-put-on-a-show vibe of their public image, and that sense of upbeat energy fuses ideally with Howard’s enthusiastic fan-service approach to the material. It’s a testament to the buoyancy of the film that such exhausted, well-trod material can still feel fresh.
And make no mistake, there is absolutely nothing new under the British sun here, which isn’t surprising for a Beatles documentary in 2016 ...

I recently posted a Joe Walsh song on my Facebook wall and the reaction was mixed. One commenter wrote, "Walsh always struck me as the real-life Spicoli, and that was about as seriously as I could take him." This is a common misconception about Walsh.
Walsh has had a music career of over five decades. There are many, many people who know of him mostly as a member of the Eagles (since 1975) who had a hit in 1978 with a funny song, "Life's Been Good." Yet Walsh was a music biz veteran of eleven years’ standing when Hotel California was released in 1976; he would not have been recruited into the Eagles if he had not already established himself as such a distinctive guitarist that he could instantly give them the rock cred they so desired. Already on his resume were the killer riffs of "Rocky Mountain Way," "Turn to Stone," "Walk Away,...

Paul McCartney is remembering the "Fifth Beatle," record producer Sir George Martin, who has died at 90. "He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me," McCartney wrote on his website Wednesday. "He guided the career of The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George. From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I've ever had the pleasure to know.
