I believe this was the final Columbo episode from the 70's, and it definitely goes out with a bang, or a bark, if you allow me to elaborate. As is common knowledge by now, the instruments used to murder a colleague are 2 dogs, owned by an influential psychologist movie buff. On a side note I wonder if these 2 dogs are the same from Magnum, PI? Anyway, the use of the dogs are a clever way to execute(pardon the pun)a murder, especially when a kill command is given over the phone to a friend who was having an affair with the doctor's wife, which is a tired motive, but she ended up killed in a single car accident under mysterious circumstances. What also makes the a better than average episode is the doctor's love for films, especially Citizen Kane, and the wide array of movie props, like WC Fields pool cue. Look for a very young Kim Cattral as a live-in student who had the misfortune of witnessing the gruesome murder.

If I have any problems here, perhaps it's the lack of chemistry between Peter Falk and Nicol Williamson(doctor); Falk has great chemistry with Jack Cassidy, Willliam Shatner, and Robert Culp as guest star villains.
