Sex & Nudity

  • A man is shown naked, running through a field. We see his rear, but nothing else explicit.

Violence & Gore

  • There is little blood during the crucifixion and flagellation scenes.
  • Jesus is punched, beaten with guard spears and then he is whipped for a few seconds. These scenes are relatively brief.
  • One of thieves on the cross is slapped very hard on his face just before he is nailed.
  • Jesus is crucified. He screams in pain and we see wooden nails pounded into his wrists. Blood is seen only in distant.
  • At the arrest, the servant is visible as the sword swings down and cuts off a good chunk of his ear. But he yells and immediately covers it with his hand, and then Jesus comes forward and puts his hand over it. This all makes it seem more miraculous when the ear is whole when Jesus leaves.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Wine plays a small role, as we see the Good Samaritan pour wine on the robbed traveler's wounds, and as wine is drunk at meals like the Last Supper. Unlike some other Bible movies, there are no scenes of drunken rowdiness.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a scene with a presumably dead girl lying in bed. We hear the sounds of her loved ones wailing and crying over her. This scene may upset viewers.
  • A young man is possessed by demons. He looks like he is having a seizure fit, convulsing and shaking on the ground, where he makes snarling and other disturbing sounds.
  • A naked man runs to Jesus with an object in his hand, who is possessed by a demon. He looks rather frightening with his threatening face. Jesus would then take the demon out of him and cast it into a herd of pigs nearby, where they would squeal and run off.
  • At the temple, the crowd gets mad at Jesus for saying things that are blasphemous. They all gang up to him, shove him out and almost try to push him from a precipice.
  • Satan, in snake form, appears to Jesus at a desert where it tells him to throw himself from a building.
  • At that time of Jesus's death, the sky darkness and an earthquake occurs. People would run away and scream. The temple's curtains are ripped in half. The music is suspenseful. Children might find this scene very frightening.
  • Satan, who is in snake form, speaks to Jesus in a desert and tries to tempt him to jump from a building.
  • Some people may find Jesus' screams of pain while he is being crucified unnerving and somewhat intense.
  • During the Bethlehem part of the opening minutes, Mary keeps moaning in labor pains, and on arrival in the inn's stable immediately lies down on the hay in birth position, still in pain. This is not intense but may cause discomfort anyway.
