- When "Blue Thunder" was first released on video in Sweden, the scene where Kate drives to the the TV station with the videotape, involved a crazy stunt when she drives into a narrow alley and meets a police car that comes the other way. To avoid a disaster, Kate flips her car on its side, hits its roof on a wall and flips back again. In later video versions, the stunt is gone. We only see the car when it enters the alley and then we see her driving on the freeway with a strange damage on the roof.
- There are at least two versions of the movie differing in soundtrack. One version features an orchestral/piano version of the theme for the final credits (seen on German television), another version features a synthesizer version with drums for the final credits (seen on US DVD release).
- ABC edited 14 minutes from this film for its 1986 network television premiere.
- The first half of the end credits on the Blu-ray release features electronic computer-like sound effects as the credits are typed out on the screen, up until the co-stars are credited, before falling silent and leaving only the music.
- Above mentioned stunt is still missing on the DVD version, although the complete version of it has been shown on TV!
- A voyeurism sequence has Murphy and Lymangood hovering near a window to spy on a limber girl doing a nude workout. The TV version has an alternate sequence with the same girl working out in bikini underwear and doing different moves.
