Down with La sociale!
dbdumonteil5 April 2019
First film directed by Gérard Mordillat based on his own novel ;very ambitious ,lauded far beyond its station when it was released ,it's hardly watchable today .Ambitious, but clichéd as you mighyt not think possible,it's a boring work .The rare good moments are to be found in the first part: childhood memories at school, the street pedlar ,a true thing of the past (a wonderful small part for Jean-Pierre Cassel), the schoolteacher his pupil cherishes, .....But the narrator commenting his life again and again ,gets on the nerves in the long run; besides, the movie looks more and more like a musical as the story progresses ,and the music is pretty mediocre at that ...
