Tora's age is becoming more significant here
Jeremy_Urquhart9 October 2021
Returns to the classic Tora-san formula where the focus is on Tora falling for another woman- but with a twist: the usual bittersweet feeling that comes with things not working out near the end (spoilers if you haven't realised that's the norm for this series by now lol) is darker, here, perhaps owing to Tora's older age, compared to the start of the series, and the fact his emotional immaturity is even more concerning because of that.

It's quite jarring and uncomfortably tense, even, towards the end. Thankfully, it's also balanced out with some good humour and fun in the first half, including the way Tora is woken from his dream, the action movie inspired dream itself, and the President fretting over his daughter's wedding in a solid and amusing subplot.

Overall, it's a well above average entry, and I liked how it dipped its toes into darker waters whilst revisiting an otherwise very familiar Tora-san storyline.

The last five or so minutes are really weird but kind of in a good way? Genuinely surprising, so wouldn't want to say anymore.
