We'll begin today's bulletin with Trumbo, Jay Roach's new film centered on the life of Dalton Trumbo played by Bryan Cranston, which Bleecker Street will be releasing later this year. A possible Oscar contender and likely fall festival entrant, the film has scored an R rating and who knows, maybe we'll get a trailer sooner rather than later. Then there's Z for Zachariah, which played the Sundance Film Festival to a mixed response. Rated PG-13, the film was picked up by Roadside, but is still looking for an official release date. Anton Corbijn's Life is still looking for a distributor after its Berlin Film Festival premiere, but it has an MPAA rating. The film, starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan, will arrive with an R-rating when it does finally arrive. Controversial director makes rare appearance and speeches at Danish film awards.
Lars von Trier has once more broken his “vow of silence” to accept an armful of prizes at Denmark’s Robert awards.
The controversial Danish filmmaker’s Nymphomaniac: Director’s Cut scooped eight trophies including best feature and best director at the Danish Film Academy’s awards last night (Feb 1) – and von Trier was in attendance at the ceremony for the first time.
Accepting the Robert for best feature, von Trier said: “From Peter Aalbæk Jensen (his producing partner at Zentropa Entertainments), I know that some of the Robert awards are won by five votes, so I would like to thank those five persons in the auditorium. Thank you very much.”
The director of Antichrist and Dancer in the Dark has rarely spoken in public after being expelled from the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, where he brought Melancholia, after publicly joking that he was a Nazi...

Dok Leipzig’s Golden Dove for Best International Documentary went to the Us, while Norway scored a hat-trick at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck.
The top award in Leipzig’s International Documentary Competition went to Italian-born, Us-based film-maker Roberto Minervini’s Stop The Pounding Heart whose portrayal of a strict religious family was described by the jury as ¨refreshing and unsettling at the same time.¨
The Us-Belgian-Italian co-production is handled internationally by Doc & Film.
The Golden Dove in the German Documentary Competition was awarded to Carlo Zoratti for his feature-length debut The Special Need, while the newly-created Golden Dove for the animation-documentary hybrid form was presented to French director Daniela De Felice’s Casa.
A total of 18 prizes with cash awards totalling almost €70,000 ($95,000) included the Fipresci Prize for Gang Zhao’s A Folk Troupe; the Mdr Film Prize for Vitaly Mansky’s Pipeline; and the Youth Jury Prize to Joanna by Aneta Kopacz, a graduate...
