Plot Summary

This is the story of a man, Antoine, and a woman, Thérèse. She works in the village with her mother. He's on the mountain pasture tending the animals with his uncle Séraphin, whom he considers a bit like his father. One day, a landslide buries Antoine and Séraphin. Thérèse, pregnant, believes herself to be a widow, but Antoine reappears long afterwards.
