Maryvonne is a working girl in a Saint-Brieux (Britanny)factory. She meets a young man and she feels it is going to be the "grand amour" .But their love story dilutes cause the world around them is mean and cold:all her dreams fly away.A postcard from her son in Canada shows that perhaps one of her dreams might come true.

There's no Kenneth Loach in France and the films about the little working class heroes (or heroines) are rare.

John(Jack) Berry was promised to great things :his musical remake of Duvivier's "Pépé le Moko" and his films noirs ("he ran all the way" starring John Garfield is unforgettable)were stunning achievements. Another victim of McCarthysism ,he chose France as Dassin did .But whereas Dassin produced another great film noir with "du rififi chez les hommes" ,Berry ,after the "Tamango" (probably unfair) fiasco , was relegated to direct pop star Johnny Hallyday ("A tout casser").

"Le voyage à Paimpol" is a decent honorable movie but it's certainly hard for an American to give an accurate rendition of a society which is inevitably unfamiliar to him.
