Routine war action from the Philippines

COMMANDO INVASION is another stock Filipino war movie from the 1980s and one that features a ton of action with little in the way of plotting to get in the way. The main character is an American commando who's busy killing off random Vietcong when he's betrayed by his own men and left for dead. When he wakes up holding a handful of diamonds, his superiors decide that he's a murderer and get ready to court martial him.

The hero convinces them otherwise and returns to Vietnam in order to track down a general whom he believes is really responsible for the attack. He must then transport his prisoner through enemy territory while avoiding rival French troops, Vietcong, and traitors at every turn. 90% of this film was made in flat fields and consists of soldiers randomly shooting each other while stock macho dialogue plays out in between. The cast is below par although seasoned veteran Gordon Mitchell has a small role as a hard-ass general. By genre standards it's not one of the most exciting Filipino war films out there.
