Yesterday featured a look at the roundtable interview I participated in with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy star Colin Firth. My sit-down with the film’s director, Tomas Alfredson, and co-writer, Peter Straughn will be published on Friday. Today brings the question-and-answer segment focused on Gary Oldman, the firm, reserved core of the film’s ensemble.
Oldman plays George Smiley, perhaps the character most iconically associated with spy novelist John le Carré, who is responsible for the film’s 1974 source material. Oldman has, rather infamously (and sadly), never been formally recognized by the Academy Awards, and many are hoping that his layered turn as Smiley could break the barrier for him. However, the thing is, interestingly enough, that this quiet, methodical performance is something that the Academy rarely attaches themselves to, so the mere fact that he’s in firm contention for a Best Actor nomination – indeed, most pundits currently have...

In an interview with The Advocate promoting his upcoming role as an HIV-positive love interest for Uncle Saul (Ron Rifkin) on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, out gay actor Richard Chamberlain says he “wouldn’t advise a gay leading man-type actor to come out.” In an era when the President of the United States signed a bill repealing a law banning gay soldiers from serving openly in the military, the same month out actor Neil Patrick Harris hosted a video game awards show on Spike, Chamberlain’s words gave me more than a bit of pause.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fl (Cns) -- Classic actor Richard Chamberlain, who has starred in films like "The Three Musketeers", "The Count of Monte Cristo" and as the original Jason Bourne in the 1998 TV movie "The Bourne Identity", was on hand for the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival's red carpet for the premiere of his film "Strength & Honor".
His latest film pairs him with Michael Madsen ("Kill Bill') in a story about a boxer who retired after killing a friend in the ring returns to fight for the first time in order to fund his child's life-saving operation. "It's a great film," Chamberlain said. "Thrilling and exciting, at the same time."
His last film appearance was as Council Banks in 2007's "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry", with Adam Sandler. He called the film "curious" and didn't want to elaborate much more on that.
But when asked about the results of this past Tuesday's election,...
