Kevin Costner arrived at the Cannes Film Festival surrounded by his children on Sunday night for the premiere of his new film Horizon: An American Saga. The appearance marked a rare reunion of the entire Costner family on the international stage, showcasing the close-knit bonds that have defined this Hollywood dynasty.
The Costner family looked elegant together as they walked the red carpet. Kevin, known for iconic movies like Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams, led the way with his engaging presence.
His daughters Lily, Grace Avery and Annie looked beautiful in their dresses, and his sons Cayden Wyatt and Hayes looked dashing in their suits.
The family reunion on the French Riviera showed how close the Costners are, even though Kevin divorced his wife, Nicole Baumgartner, last year in an acrimonious divorce. He has worked hard to maintain strong bonds with all his children from his previous marriages.

Kevin Costner risked everything to turn his dream project into reality, and now he’s basking in the glory brought by Horizon: An American Saga after it was well-received during its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor notably left Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone due to a number of reasons, one of which was his desire to focus on his own movie. The gamble was truly a precarious move, but he showed no slowing down once he got a grip on his new project.

Most baseball movies are not, per se, about baseball. To take some examples: The Natural is about a prodigy overcoming trauma; Eight Men Out is about greed and corruption; Bad News Bears is a foul-mouthed coming-of-age flick; Bull Durham is all about Kevin Costner’s sex appeal; Moneyball carries the sport into the information age; and Field of Dreams (Costner, again) is haunted by the ghosts of baseball past.
First-time director Carson Lund clearly had this in mind when he made his feature debut Eephus, a movie steeped in nostalgia for the game itself, as well as what it represents for a bunch of men past their prime: the long afternoons in the sun, the trash-talking at the plate, the brewskies in the cooler and the kind of camaraderie you can only find in the dugout.

Kevin Costner was on a roll with his baseball-based movies in the 1980s & ’90s, starting with the 1988 film Bull Durham. The film featured Costner in the role of veteran catcher ‘Crash’ Davis, who is brought in to teach rookie pitcher Nuke, played by Tim Robbins. The film was a critical and commercial success, but it was also a topic of discussion among some online fans for one scene in the film. It is rumored that Costner made a young bat boy cry during the film.

Kevin Costner enjoyed John Mulaney’s Field of Dreams bit at the 2024 Oscars.
Costner told People the comedian’s explanation of the movie’s plot was “amazing.”
“I couldn’t believe that guy. Amazing. I watched it a second time,” Costner said.
“What a chance, because there’s always people in the Oscars trying to rush you,” he said. “And he went fast. But what he said, I was very touched by it. I should talk to him, because I was really impressed. He was a genius.”
“I loved what he did.”

Martin Scorsese fans might have experienced a bit of deja vu after Variety exclusively reported that a Frank Sinatra biopic is one of two films the Oscar-winning director is planning to shoot back to back. The other is a movie about Jesus, the director’s second after 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” But it’s the Sinatra biopic that has long been a white whale of sorts for Scorsese.
Per Variety’s report, Scorsese’s Sinatra movie is eyeing his longtime muse Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the crooner — and the actor’s “Don’t Look Up” co-star Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife, the famous Hollywood actress Ava Gardner (who factored into Scorsese’s “The Aviator” and was played by Kate Beckinsale). Sony is reportedly the frontrunner to nab the project, which Scorsese once tried and failed to get off the ground several years ago.

Oliver Stone is more than just a filmmaker. Believe it or not, even the most beloved movies can face initial skepticism from actors. Field of Dreams, a 1989 classic, became more than just a sports movie. It delved into deeper themes like redemption, family, and the importance of pursuing dreams. Despite its universal appeal, Ray Liotta, who played the memorable character “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, wasn’t immediately sold on the story.

If you build it, he will come. And if you joke about it, he will tweet. Kevin Costner has responded to John Mulaney’s breakdown of Field of Dreams – delivered when presenting Best Sound (a surprise win for The Zone of Interest) at Sunday’s Oscars – in good-hearted fashion, saying it wasn’t a bad summary at all.
In one of the night’s funniest moments, Mulaney took a tangent after delivering some of the most iconic lines in modern movies. One was, “If you build it, he will come” from 1989’s Field of Dreams. From there, he gave a far better plot summary of Phil Alden Robinson’s movie than any VHS box could. “I guess he doesn’t build it, he mows down corn, and then there is a field and he’s like, ‘I’m going to watch ghosts play baseball, and the bank is like, ‘You wanna pay your mortgage?...

Reactions vary among Oscar watchers, but I'm tired of Jimmy Kimmel. Comedy is subjective, but I've never warmed up to the late night host as an Academy Awards fixture. His humor comes with a taste of perceived superiority as if he's above the movies honored at the ceremony. He even showed up at the Oscars to ramble about Field of Dreams in the night's best bit. Kevin Costner has a strong emotional connection to his classic 1989 sports fantasy drama Field of Dreams, but he isn’t above laughing at the ridiculousness of the plot. The Yellowstone star took to social media on Tuesday, March 12, to respond to a moment from Sunday’s (March 10) Oscars where comedian John Mulaney hilariously summarized the film’s storyline. Mulaney, who was introducing the award for Best Sound, brought up the Oscar-nominated film and proceeded to talk through the plot (watch his full summary below), including the scene where Ray’s (Costner) daughter, Karin, falls off the bleachers and starts choking to death on a hot dog. Sunday’s Oscars drew an average of 19.5 million total viewers, according to Nielsen numbers, the most since Covid. The February 9, 2020 Academy Awards averaged 23.6 million viewers, which at the time was an all-time low.
The 2024 Academy Awards on ABC began at 7 p.m. Et/4 p.m. Pt, an hour earlier than every Oscars in (at least) recent memory. The early start time could have gone either way. The positive spin is that more potential viewers were awake; on the flip side, quite a few viewers may have inadvertently joined late.

The 96th Academy Awards saw Oppenheimer taking home the most awards of the night, a fine selection of memorable speeches and even a dog in the audience. But some of the funniest moments of the Oscars came in between all of these. For us, the highlight was undoubtedly a showdown for the ages between Michael Keaton and two foes of Batman: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
One presenter — well, pair of presenters — that got big laughs was the duo of Schwarzenegger and DeVito, who gave out the Oscars for Best Visual Effects and Best Editing. Now we all know that the two headlined Twins (which Oppenheimer editor Jennifer Lame was cool enough to shout out), but what they really wanted to focus on was taking down Batman, as Mr. Freeze and The Penguin were both discarded by the Caped Crusader in Batman & Robin and Batman Returns, respectively. And...

For one full minute during the 96th annual Academy Awards, John Mulaney recapped the 1989 Kevin Costner baseball movie, “Field of Dreams.” Standing alone onstage, preparing to present the Oscar for Best Sound, the stand-up comic pivoted from a broad set-up about how some people still think movies were better before the talkies took over — “These people are difficult and insane” (a good line which got his first laugh) — to listing films that were clearly better because of their audio — films like “Jaws,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “Madame Web” (laugh No. 2). Then Mulaney said, “Or what about that moment in ‘Field of Dreams’ when you hear, ‘If you build it, he will come?’”
And then it happened. Mulaney kept going. And going. And going. He dropped the inherently funny phrase, “I want to watch ghosts play baseball,” confessed to thinking James Earl Jones’ book from the movie was a real book,...

The Academy Awards unfolded pretty much as expected, with “Oppenheimer” dominating, and the only real shocks coming in the — wait, there weren’t any huge ones, actually. As predicted, “Oppenheimer” steamrolled, getting seven Oscars in total. It won the top prize for picture, as well as Christopher Nolan winning for director, Cillian Murphy for actor and Robert Downey Jr. for supporting actor — along with Hoyte van Hoytema winning for cinematography, Jennifer Lame for editing and Ludwig Göransson for score.

John Mulaney's Hilarious Field Of Dreams Recap Doubled As His Oscar Host Audition - And He Nailed It
For award show junkies frustrated with the apparent laziness of a lot of the comedic material delivered by award hosts in recent years, comedian John Mulaney has often been a beacon of hope. Whereas Jimmy Kimmel fills his monologue with jokes about how much he hates sitting through long movies, Mulaney's monologue at the Governor's Award earlier this year demonstrated a clear love of film and appreciation towards everyone who makes them. (A stark contrast from Jo Koy's hacky material at the Golden Globes not long before.) Since then, people have been wondering why Mulaney's never been invited to host the Oscars, and Mulaney's latest speech (to present the award for Best Sound) has only raised the question further. He started off with this killer bit of sarcasm:
"Without sound, we wouldn't have been able to hear such classic lines as 'You're going to need a bigger boat,' 'I'll have what she's having,...

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

"How about you and I be honest about what each of us want out of this – I want to milk the last ounce of baseball you got in you." Who doesn't love baseball movies?! America's past-time has made for some great cinema, with hundreds of beloved movies over the years dedicated to the sport. There's a baseball movies montage going around social media recently (it's embedded below) posted by the "Baseball History Nut" account saying: "Someone made a baseball movie montage and it actually deserves an Oscar. Thank you to whoever made this." The version posted on Twitter is actually a cut down version of a "Baseball on Film" video created by a YouTube user named "Adam K" that first appeared around 8 years ago. (They're always digging up content from the past.) Even though it may be an older video, still worth a watch. From comedies like Major League and The Sandlot,...

The Oscars ceremony that took place in 2009 remains an all-time favorite for many who watched it, including your humble correspondent, largely because of the thrilling way in which the four acting Oscars were presented: Five past winners introduced the five current nominees for each award. This resulted in massive standing ovations from the audience at the Dolby (even awards show veterans like Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep looked absolutely giddy in cutaway shots); introductory remarks from past winners that left current nominees visibly moved (Anne Hathaway was in tears); and group hugs of the new winners that were akin to welcoming them into an elite fraternity or sorority (see: Kate Winslet).

The Dunkin’ Super Bowl Lviii commercial starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Tom Brady as part of an ultimate boyband dubbed ‘The DunKings’ became the talk of the town after its airing during the big game.
The ad sees the Argo alum and his newly-formed supergroup storm into Jennifer Lopez’s studio donning pink and orange tracksuits. They bust into some sick moves, and show off their musical chops with an original pop track, albeit to Matt Damon’s reluctance, who appeared to be second-guessing everything that led up to this moment.
Ben Affleck’s Dunkin’ Spot aired during Super Bowl Lviii
More comedic sequences ensue, but at the very end, we see Affleck and Damon walk side-by-side out of the studio as the latter says, “Remember how I said I would do anything for you? This is anything.” Turns out, this moment wasn’t even scripted!

If there’s any Hollywood Bff duo you could confuse for brothers, it’s Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
They’ve acted together, written together, won Academy Awards together, and even hatched “evil” plans (in the eyes of Jimmy Kimmel) together.
Their latest project Air premiered last year, which tells the story of the shoe salesman who works to get a shoe deal for Michael Jordan.
The two went from playing extras in Field of Dreams, to becoming Hollywood royalty in their own right. They’ve since worked together in over 10 movies, and even when they don’t interact in the movies, the duo still manage to make magic together.

Like many of Taylor Sheridan’s shows, the cast of his flagship creation Yellowstone is a major part of its draw. The cast is an intriguing mix of absolute icons, seasoned veterans, character actors, international artists and, at the time, up-and-comers. While their notoriety has certainly evolved to the point where they are inseparable from Yellowstone, this amazing group of performers has an equally amazing body of work behind them.
While these may not be the roles the cast are known for, or even remembered for, there are several stops along the way to the fictional Montana that are worth mentioning. With Yellowstone currently on hiatus, now is the perfect time to revisit these films and shows, and see how well rounded the cast truly is.

Acting legend James Earl Jones is the man with the legendary voice who is still very active on Broadway and in films and shows.
Revered within the acting community for his six decades of subtle performances, Jones first came to prominence as a stage actor. He has carved out a career in which he has triumphed in a wide range of media. He has been nominated for four Tony Awards, winning two (“The Great White Hope” & “Fences”), as well as earning three Grammy nominations, winning for “Great American Documents.” He won his Golden Globe for “The Great White Hope” (from five nominations), garnered eight Emmy noms with three wins, earned an Oscar nomination for “The Great White Hope” and was awarded an honorary Academy Award in 2011.

In recent years, Kevin Costner has been seen less on the big screens and more on his television series “Yellowstone,” currently bringing astounding ratings to the Paramount Network. Westerns have been good to Costner at the movies, with his most successful winning him two Oscars as producer and director of “Dances with Wolves” in 1990.
Costner almost had a career that ended before it really started. After very small roles in a number of big films such as Ron Howard’s “Night Shift” and the Jessica Lange vehicle “Frances” Costner then got what could have been a star-making role. However, his role as a suicide victim in flashback scenes for “The Big Chill” was cut by director Lawrence Kasdan. The same director wou would later make it up to Costner by casting him in a showy role in the film “Silverado.”

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Let’s get this out of the way right off the top: Phil Alden Robinson’s Sneakers (a previous Best Movie You Never Saw entry) is one of the most criminally under-seen movies from the 90s – maybe of all time. Sporting an airtight plot, a phenomenal cast and splendid direction, it’s been relegated to cult classic status as opposed to just plain old classic status. And while there’s nothing wrong with being a cult classic, it’s just when a movie is this good, it’s always surprising to find there are so many people who’ve never seen it. Well, we’re here to change that the best way we know how, by cracking the code of what makes a great movie so special. So boot up your super-computers and draw down the shades – cuz you never know who might be watching you – and let’s find out Wtf Happened to Sneakers.

All dads are not created equal. Some offer unconditional love, some take a firm-but-fair approach, some are rolling stones, some are actual Rolling Stones, and some are The Great Santini. It's a cosmic crap shoot as to which kind of paterfamilias you wind up with, and even an ideal upbringing can morph into a contentious relationship over time. Life, and human beings, are weird that way.
This is why there is no shortage of fiction dealing with dads. We're especially flush with tales centered on the always tricky father-son dynamic. Phil Alden Robinson's "Field of Dreams" was the sleeper hit of spring 1989. Based on W.P. Kinsella's wistful novel "Shoeless Joe," the film connected with audiences of all ages, but Baby Boomers in particular. Julio Quintana (Blue Miracle) directed true golf story set in 1950s.
XYZ Films has come on board international sales at AFM for sports drama and SXSW Narrative Spotlight Audience Award winner The Long Game starring Dennis Quaid and Jay Hernandez.
Julio Quintana (Blue Miracle) directed the true story of five young Mexican American caddies in 1955 who created their own golf course in the middle of the South Texas brush country.
Despite outdated and inferior equipment and no professional instruction to begin with, they would go on to compete against wealthy, all-white teams and win the 1957 Texas State High School Golf Championship.
