  Sam Leary : I know, but you used to.

  Jake : Right, used to. Past tense.

  Sam Leary : I'm not after a free ride. I can carry my share of the load.

  Jake : I'm sure you can.

  Sam Leary : No, you're not. You're not even listening to me.

  Jake : That's right. I'm not even listening to you.

  Sam Leary : Why?

  Jake : 'Cause I work with the best. Anything else is a waste of my time. Besides, do you think you're the first person to apply for this job?

  Sam Leary : No, but I'm the most qualified.

  Jake : What makes you think that?

  Sam Leary : I graduated first in my class at the academy. I scored in the top 1% of all officers in the target range. I made detective first time up, the second youngest woman on the force to do that.

  Jake : It must make your parents very proud, but why should it make you my partner?

• Jake : I've already been through this city. I've been in it, around it, on top of it. You name it.

  Sam Leary : How about under it?

• Jake : [Leary accessing the computer at Berkowitz's office]  What do you think you are gonna do with that? Play Ms. Pac-Man or something?

  Sam Leary : Hopefully, find Castle.
