In a series of key pacts for Argentine political horror pic, “History of the Occult,” Netflix has snapped up streaming rights to the film for Spain and Latin America, which it plans to drop on Oct. 15, while WarnerMedia’s HBO Max has scooped up all Central European streaming rights.
In addition, Eurozoom took all French rights and plans a first quarter 2022 theatrical release, said Guido Rud, CEO of Buenos Aires-based sales and production company FilmSharks International.
“We believe that high concept horror is hard to find, and high concept with amazing scripts, almost impossible. But miracles happen and we are lucky that we know the right buyers who have the skills and foresight to recognize these gems when we do,” said Rud.

Shooting of The Last Boy on Earth, a new sci-fi film from Argentine director Nic Onetti, wrapped up recently. A small gallery of photos have been sent along with the announcement, with a little too rugged looking Onetti, the crew and his young star Camilo Levigne. Levigne is already a member of the Onetti film family, with appearances in his giallo film Abrakadabra and the antholgy A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio. If the setting of the location on the last day of shooting looks familiar you just have to go back to Onetti's last film, What the Waters Left Behind. Onetti went back to the desolate ruins of Villa Epecuén, the tourist village in the Buenos Aires province that was flooded with ten...

Worldwide and remake rights to Argentine political horror pic, “History of the Occult,” has been snapped up by leading Buenos Aires-based sales and production company, FilmSharks International.
According to FilmSharks’ CEO Guido Rud, advanced talks are underway with a streaming giant while a major U.S. genre producer is eyeing it for a remake, which FilmSharks subsidiary, The Remake Company, handles.
Filmed in black and white and set in the 1980s, “History of the Occult” takes place during the last broadcast of the #1 news show on TV, “60 Minutes Before Midnight.” A band of journalists are racing against time to convince the lead guest, Adrian Marcato, to expose a conspiracy that connects their corrupt government to an actual coven.
Marcato is played by veteran Argentine film, theatre and commercials actor German Baudino whose credits include “Abrakadabra,” 2017’s “Los Olvidados” and “Dia de los Muertos.”

Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!
The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

Some of my friends in Argentina began working on a new horror anthology flick this week, The Devil's Tail, with a wrap around directed by Taz Pereyra. Nico Onetti (What the Waters Left Behind) is on board as the creative director and his Abrakadabra star María Eugenia Rigón stars in the piece as the senior nurse.Black Mandala Pictures is producing. Bruno Giacobbe, who was the Hombre Palido (Pallid Man) in Demian Rugna's Terrified once again lends his slender frame for the role of Mr. Moore. Pereyra will make her directorial debut with this wraparound story for The Devil's Tail. She has worked with Onetti often, designing costumers for Abrakadabra, A Night of Horror and Asylum. This latest anthology curated by Onetti will feature short horror films from...

A generic spy story becomes an inspired light comedy with the application of great talent led by the star-power of Walter Matthau. Matthau’s CIA spook hooks up with old flame Glenda Jackson to retaliate against his insufferable CIA boss (Ned Beatty) with a humiliating tell-all book about the agency’s dirty tricks history. Matthau’s sloppy, slouchy master agent is a comic delight; Ronald Neame’s stylishly assured direction makes a deadly spy chase into a wholly pleasant romp.

Cic Video? Medusa? Odyssey? Thorn Emi? We track down the classic video companies of yesterday…
The modern DVD and Blu-ray market? Well, it’s all so corporate isn’t it? No slight on the releases, or the companies involved, but I don’t think anyone gets a frission of excitement when they see a Warner Bros Home Entertainment logo on a box, in the way they used to when the Medusa logo popped up. And whilst there are firms such as Arrow and Eureka keeping the flag of quirky film companies flying, there are still a few names consigned to the VHS recycle bin, whose story is in danger of being lost. Hence, this article…

True Crime novelist, screenwriter, and conservative commentator Andrew Klavan (One Missed Call, A Shock To The System, Haunting Melissa) has been hired to script the crowdfunded TV film project Gosnell, about Philadelphia abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell. The infamous doctor was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder for mercilessly killing babies of botched abortions who were born alive by driving a scissors into their necks and snipping their spinal cords. His practices are believed to have gone on for as many as forty years and Gosnell is currently serving a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
Klavan boards the project after the completion of an enormously successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, which raised $2,241,043 from 26,500 donors with the help of celeb backers like Kevin Sorbo. It became the most-funded campaign on the platform within its first three weeks. Husband and wife team Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney are producing Gosnell along with Magdalena Segieda.

On the other hand, it's just as toxic that this guy characterizes his liberal biz counterparts as "Anti-American". Your thoughts?...
