This was a fine little film. Pretty straightforward story of a young girl in turn of the century France whose family marries her off to an older man, a philandering publisher. he introduces her to the wicked ways of swinging Paris, and she takes to the life.
Her writer father has taught her from an early age to keep a journal, and when her husband stumbles upon it he publishes it, giving the writing credit to himself.
Through her acquaintance with writers, actors, singers and dancers, the bohemian intelligentsia, she reclaims her writing as her own, becomes Colette.
great cast. The lovely Mathilda May, Virginia Madsen and Klaus Maria Brandauer. Directed by Danny Huston. A treat. Reminded me a little of Henry and June, which I notice came out the year before. Maybe that is why no one has heard of this one.
