Ubisoft is expanding the world and story of “Tom Clancy’s The Division” in 2019 with a comic book line and lore book from Dark Horse, as well as a novel written by Alex Irvine, and it talked more about those projects during San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.
“The World of Tom Clancy’s The Division” is a 192-page hardcover filled with incisive lore and detailed art about the organization’s tactical methods, high-tech tools, and mission in a disease-ravaged New York City and Washington D.C. It goes on sale Mar. 19, 2019.
In addition, Dark Horse will publish a new comic book series, while author Alex Irvine will pen a new novel. Irvine previously worked with Ubisoft on “Tom Clancy’s The Division: New York Collapse.” The new book comes out in March. The comic series doesn’t have a solid release date just yet beyond “sometime in 2019.”

Could Marlon Brando return to the Oscars posthumously? The documentary Listen to Me Marlon made the finals for the Best Documentary Oscar even though documentaries about Hollywood stars and movies aren't typically so favorited. Note that Ingrid Bergman's documentary --also famously "in her own words" -- and the enjoyable Tab Hunter: Confidential and the Sundance sensation The Wolfpack about living through the movies weren't as lucky and did not make the finals.

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

Press Release:
Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse bring their epic Dark Horse Presents tale of an alien hero named Harry to a fully fledged series beginning with Resident Alien #0!
“I blame Steve Parkhouse. Having collaborated with him long ago on a couple of stories for The Dreaming, I was keen to do so again—and anyone who’s ever seen Steve’s work (on The Bojeffries Saga or The Milkman Murders, to name but two) already knows the reason why: he’s stunningly good,” stated Hogan. “We introduced our friendly alien to the world in the pages of Dark Horse Presents last year, and those installments have now been collected into Resident Alien #0. Over the next few months, you’ll learn a bit more about Harry and his supporting cast and watch as he attempts to catch a murderer—and that’s just for starters. This alien is here to stay.

Not letting 'Green Lantern' get him down, actor Ryan Reynolds is deep into another film adaptation of a comic, 'R.I.P.D.' He and Kevin Bacon were spotted on the set of the film snazzily dressed (Reynolds more so) getting ready to take off in a Dodge Challenger. The photos are below and come courtesy of Celebuzz. Certainly not in the same league as something like 'Spider-Man,' 'Batman,' or even 'Watchmen,' 'R.I.P.D.' is one of those comic book adaptations that just kind of comes out of nowhere. It looks to be one of those movies that could prove successful on its own merit rather than counting on a heavily established fanbase. From the official website of Dark Horse Comics, here's the synopsis of the graphic novel: "Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department -- the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement "patrolling the deadbeat.

Over the weekend, San Diego Comic-Con announced the programming schedule for Saturday and Sunday at this year's convention. Usually, Saturday is the most impressive day as it's the weekend and has the biggest amount of people coming into the area while Sunday is usually the most unexciting day as it's the final day of the event and everything is winding down. For 2011, each day is going in the opposite direction. Saturday's movie programming is very underwhelming, save for a few films like Snow White and the Huntsman and Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt, with more cool TV panels popping up than usual. Sunday is significantly better than usual, especially if you like TV, with Hall H panels on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Glee and more. Read about the highlights, with commentary and more after the jump. To be fair, most of these complaints stem from the fact that the...

Seven members of staff have been laid off by Dark Horse Comics, it has been reported. According to Cbr, those dismissed include editors Shawna Gore, Dave Land and Tim Erwin, as well as sales assistant Max Sato. The redundancies follow declining sales across the industry, in addition to Dark Horse falling behind Image Comics and Idw Publishing in market share possession. The bankruptcy of book chain Borders Group is also thought to be a contributory factor. Speaking to Comics Alliance, former Dark Horse marketing exec Aaron Colter attributed the firm's financial troubles to a string of poorly-handled business decisions involving (more)...

Some bloggers have been hoping to see or hear Michael Clarke Duncan step into the role of Kilowog in "Green Lantern" for a long time now. He's reportedly down now, however—and there was much rejoicing.
In other celebratory posts, Kieron Gillen reluctantly praised Hugh Grant—I'm assuming because he's in the news for reverse snooping on the press. "Game of Thrones," meanwhile, remains a much less controversial topic. Everyone's stokes about that. Check out what Jonathan Hickman won't let come between him and the new HBO show and how Brian Lynch would handle a "Scream 4"-style situation after the jump.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for April 13, 2011.

@kierongillen If you told me yesterday that Hugh Grant would be my hero today, I'd think you insane.

Mark Verheiden is a name that has been known in geek circles for years. I first ran across his stuff when he was scripting comics like the Aliens series for Dark Horse over twenty years ago. Since then he has become a steady scriptwriter for television, with many episodes of Battlestar Galacitca, Smallville and Heroes under his belt, among others. He's a co-exec producer on the upcoming Falling Skies, and now he's been tapped to work with Akiva Goldsman as co-writer and exec producer on The Dark Tower. Deadline [1] reports the news, but doesn't have a lot more info. For those who have been less than enthused about the idea of Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman being the point men on The Dark Tower, however, having a Battlestar Galactica vet on board might provide some solace. But he wasn't the writer on some of the best Galactica episodes, and then there is Heroes.

One of the myriad of projects that Ryan Reynolds will be working on is R.I.P.D., based on the Dark Horse comic about a squad of undead cops that patrol the supernatural crime beat. Back in February it looked like Zach Galifianakis would clear some room in his busy schedule to partner up with Reynolds on the Robert Schwentke directed film, but now Deadline is reporting that the actor has dropped...

We've known Ryan Reynolds would be leading the adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel R.I.P.D. (or Rest In Peace Department) since last April, and last September brought the official news that Robert Schwentke (Red) would be at the helm of the project. Then this past February we reported that Zach Galifianakis would play Reynolds' partner in the story of a dead cop (Reynolds) that makes a deal to work 100 years for divine law enforcement in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Now Deadline is reporting that the comedian simply won't be able to fit the project into his busy upcoming schedule. The combination of Galifianakis' commitment to his HBO series "Bored to Death" and the political comedy Southern Rivals with Will Ferrell seems to be the cause of his dropping out of the project . I'm not sure of the dynamic between the two characters ...

Zach Galifianakis has been forced to step away from comic adaptation R.I.P.D. thanks to prior film commitments. While the Hangover star signed on to the movie adap a while back, the scheduling of Jay Roach’s political comedy Southern Rivals has meant he’s dropped out of the project altogether. Ryan Reynolds, however, is still onboard as the film’s star, with the plot following dead police officers who enforce order in the underworld. Based on the Dark Horse comic, R.I.P.D. will be directed by Red’s Robert Schwentke,...

Any project is always going to be weakened when a talent like Zach Galifianakis exits but one particularly feels R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department) will suffer, a PG-13 supernatural buddy cop movie centering on a pair of deceased detectives, one of which is a gunslinger from the Wild West!
Ryan Reynolds has long been attached as the straight-man lead as the recently murdered cop but it’s the wacky gunslinger role that only few in Hollywood could go all out and play and Galifanakis was one. Finding a replacement who can make this concept work with only weeks before filming begins in Boston is an unenviable task but I’ll throw two names in the ring for the sake of it; Ron Perlman and Bruce Campbell! But Hollywood will undoubtedly want someone more marketable.

Ryan Reynolds, the man of oh-so-many comic book projects, has "Green Lantern" hitting theaters in June and is-he-isn't-he attachments to both "Deadpool" and "R.I.P.D." He's gone on record saying he'll likely only shoot one or the other, giving Wade Wilson fans legitimate reason to worry about the Merc with a Mouth's big-screen future.
But even if Reynolds himself hasn't fully committed to "Deadpool," it appears that 20th Century Fox has: at long last, "Deadpool" has a director.
Deadline reports that Tim Miller, a visual effects veteran from previous "X-Men" films, has just been tasked with bringing "Deadpool" to life for the studio. Though he has a long list of VFX credits on films like "Daredevil" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," this would mark his first time stepping behind the lens as director.

So close, yet so very far. Almost a year to the day after funny man and lunatic Zach Galifianakis was attached to the project, he has officially withdrawn from the big screen adaptation of the Dark Horse comic R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department). Sad news for sure. He and Ryan Reynolds together would have been genius.
The news comes in from Deadline, who reports that Galifianakis liked the project just fine, but scheduling just got too hairy, and as a result he had to pass.
Directed by Robert Schwentke, the story centers on a police force called the Rest in Peace Department and a recently slain cop who joins the force to find the man that murdered him.
Phil Hay penned the script based on the Dark Horse comic by Peter Lenkov, with Neal Moritz and Mike Richardson producing.

Zach Galifianakis has announced that he will no longer be starring in “R.I.P.D.” alongside Ryan Reynolds. This comes approximately two months after Galifianakis first got involved with the film.
According to a report at Deadline, Galifianakis has dropped out not because he dislikes the script about undead cops, but because of all-important scheduling reasons. With other things on his plate — namely “Southern Rivals” for Warner Brothers and the series “Bored to Death” for HBO — things simply got too hectic.
Reynolds has a lot on his plate too, of course. Could Galifianakis' departure give Reynolds more time to focus on “Deadpool,” another comics-inspired movie that’s has his name attached to it? Just last year, Reynolds suggested he would do either “R.I.P.D.” or “Deadpool,” but not both of them. There’s also the matter of the sequel to “Green Lantern” and if that will have to be accomplished soon.

Kevin Munroe was at WonderCon doing promotion for his upcoming film, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. Our frieands at LatinoReview were able to speak with him about his next film, a CG-animated project from LucasFilm called El Zombo. The film is based on the Dark Horse comic book series "El Zombo Fantasma" that Munroe co-created with Dave Wilkins. The story revolves around "a luchador who throws a match and then mysteriously is murdered. He ends up trapped in purgatory, trying his best to avoid landing in hell by becoming a guardian angel to a fiery ten-year-old girl. While he protects the young girl he acts out ulterior motives, hunting down his killer and figuring out why this crime was acted out."
Here is what Munroe had to say:
"So we're trying to get that made right now. We've got a script and we've partnered up with Radar Pictures and Ted Field over there.

We all know that Kevin Munroe, director of the upcoming feature "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night," is working on a CG-animated project from LucasFilm. Joss Whedon talked about another season of Buffy at his panel yesterday and hinted at a few other cool additions. I needed a break on my features of Marvel and DC characters, so here's one about a Dark Horse character. I would assume that a lot of you would remember this character, but since 1994 and even 2005 there have been a lot more geeks that were born, so this might be their first introduction to this character. Who is the Mask? The character is an odd anti-hero with elements of Steve Ditko's character - the Creeper and Batman's arch-enemy The Joker. He is able to change appearance and mysteriously disappear after each adventure. He does this by way of an enchanted jade mask. The Mask was created by writer John Arcudi and artist Doug Mahnke, and based on a concept by publisher Mike Richardson. His first appearance was Dark Horse's Mayhem #1 (1989). What are the Mask's Power and Abilities? The wearer of the Mask has cartoon like powers, think...
