Better than Return of Jafar at any rate!
TheLittleSongbird8 February 2009
The show isn't as good as the original and the King of Thieves(which is the best DTV sequel) but much better than the disappointing Return of Jafar. All the characters are well done, with the exception of Aladdin who seemed immature, and also Abis Mal who I never could stand, and generally the animation is good. Dan Castellanetta is funnier than he was in Jafar, and Jasmine seems more mature and vivacious. Most of the story lines are excellent, with great villains like Mozenrath, Ayama Aghoul, Mechanicles and Mirage. My favourite two episodes however were "Heads You Lose" and "Hero with a Thousand Feathers" with great humour, good stories, and the fantastic Tim Curry as Caliph Kapok and Amok Mon Ra. The rest of the episodes showed great promise too especially "Garden of Evil", "The Book of Kartoum" and "Armored and Dangerous". Well worth watching! 8/10 Bethany Cox

Pretty good show

I like this show I remember when it was on at 3. There are a few shows that show they have something for each other/Genie and Iago are themselves funny silly sarcastic and loud i love that! Abysmal is an idiot he just wants the hat/My favorite episode are do the rat thing and all the sadira one turning into a rat and Iago into a lizard. Sadara was in 4 episodes she created a sand monster switch places with jasmine turned Aladdin into a dragon slayer met the witches of the sand and don't eat her soup unless you want to be an hour glass like Iago heheh. Jafar did come back in 2000 something he teamed up with hades Disney decided to do 8 more shows before finishing the series. This is one of my favorite shows!

It's OK at best.
TVSeriesFTW26 July 2006
Having grown up with the Swedish dubbed version of Aladdin, I had no problem with the fact that Robin Williams didn't voice the Genie in the series. What I had a problem with was that the insane jokes weren't nearly up to the quality of the original movie. The plot line was nothing you cared about in this show, it was all about how many gags the sidekicks (Abu, Yago and The Genie) could crack during each episode. Aladdin and Jasmine almost became secondary characters because they were so 2 dimensional and flat. So, while some jokes were hilarious, there really was nothing outstanding about this show. Of course, it could've been worse (read: The "Doug" TV series).

I was addicted to this show.
maxvaughn24 March 2002
This show had semi-good animation for what it was, but that was not what drew me in as a kid. The plot lines and dialogue were witty and action grabbing. The villains were possibly the best on TV at the time. Mozenrath was the greatest! Something I especially enjoyed were the little things thrown in from other movies or TV shows of that same genre. For example, there was an episode about the Blue Rose of Forgetfullness, which is an item from a movie called "The Thief of Bagdad". (By the way, if you watch "Thief of Bagdad", you'll see where Disney got most of their name ideas and character designs for the first Aladdin movie). Even though it's sort of a sad thing to admit, but when I was ten I ran home everyday to see this show. One of the things I liked the most was that every character was included at some point. Even the Sultan had a chance to be a hero every now and again.

Not as good as the movie
cosmo726 February 2005
I'll start off by mentioning what I liked. I tried hard to see what people saw in this series, and I found a few good things about it. Some of the best episodes are the ones that prominently feature my favorite characters: Genie, Iago, and Mechanicles. Genie's "Genie Hunt" was a good spooky episode; Iago's "The Day the Bird Stood Still" had an interesting concept and interesting character analysis (of Iago). Mechanicles was funny in "Getting the Bugs Out." There's also the silly "That Stinking Feeling" - one of the few episodes that made me laugh.

The best way for me to explain the series is to compare it to the movie and to my favorite Darkwing Duck. In the movie, I liked: the gorgeous animation; Robin Williams' energetic performance; two strong, interesting, attractive leads, Aladdin and Jasmine, who have chemistry; catchy, showy musical numbers; and a convincing, menacing villain.

In the Aladdin TV series, the animation isn't as beautiful as it is in the movie but it's still nice for a cartoon show. Second, although Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson, Megavolt from Darkwing Duck) isn't as good as Robin Williams, he's the next best thing and one of the best things about the series. As he does with all his characters - even the villains - Castellaneta brings a charming likability to Genie. Also, there is much more time in the series for me to see that Aladdin and Jasmine aren't as interesting as I thought. They have hardly any quirks at all. I'm glad there aren't any musical numbers, because they don't usually work well for TV episodes. Finally, I dislike most of the villains. Darkwing Duck had a lot of interesting villains with amusing voices like Negaduck, Megavolt, and the Liquidator. It's a tough standard to live up to, and Aladdin doesn't even come close. Fans seem to have found Mozenrath sexy, but I found him to be a whiny, ineffectual tantrum-thrower. As for Saleen and Sadira, Saleen was uninteresting and Sadira was interesting but annoying. I disliked Mirage (see Batman's Catwoman for an example of a good cat-based villain). The only villain that really entertained me was Mechanicles, with an honorable mention to the disgusting but scary Muktars.

So, even though it made sense to leave some of these things out, they're still great parts of the movie that have either been left out or toned down, leaving the series with much less to interest me. There's not a lot of the smart dialog or frequent jokes that Darkwing Duck has. Genie, Iago, Abu, and Carpet make great sidekicks, but they're not enough to make up for Aladdin and Jasmine's lacklustre personalities. I think the series can be summed up in the same way Aladdin and Jasmine can: adventurous, attractive, and dull.

One of my favorites.

Once again, I check out the user comments for a great Disney TV show only to be surprised at the many negative reviews. This is one of my favorite TV shows ever from Disney. It's full of adventure and humor, and I don't think Aladdin and Jasmine are as two-dimensional as many other reviewers here have claimed. Okay, I have to admit, that Genie, Jago and sometimes Abu are the funny characters, not Aladdin and Jasmine, but that doesn't make them two-dimensional. This show is a classic of the 90s, and it deserves every praise it can get. Many Disney shows are ones, that I used to watch back in the day, but now, I don't like them anymore. But "Aladdin" will never get too childish or too disgusting or too annoying for me.

A forgotten diamond in the rough
marktonna28 June 2023
This show both feels in continuity with the films( set between "Return of Jafar and King of Theives"), while also being accessible to general audiences. The stories are creative and the characters get fleshed out in new ways, while also having fun action and laughs. The animation is very good for the time and the cast are brilliant, especially, Dan Castellaneta, who manages to fill the shoes of Robin William's.

However, the show often gets cheesy, doesn't have much emotional depth and gets too silly at times.

This show deserves way more attention, especially since despite it's popularity, it's not available on Disney Plus.

A very good show for all age's.

Nostalgic
RoamingTigress29 October 2011
When I was in fifth grade, Aladdin was the staple of my childhood. I was hooked on the original movie still and became just as hooked on Return of Jafar. When news came out there was going to be a television series, I could not be more delighted! Not only was I on an Aladdin kick, I also dearly missed the number of Disney Afternoon shows (particularly Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin) which were no longer in production. I needed another Disney AFternoon show to get hooked on, and Aladdin had filled in that void quite nicely.

Although it has been a number of years since I've last seen the show (I will have to dig out my old VHS tapes of taped episodes), fondness and memories remain. It was the sidekicks in my eyes that truly stole the show for me. I became a big fan of Iago's since the maligned sequel came out, and seeing more of him was a treat for me.

My only flaws for the show were some of the original characters I didn't particularly care for and I felt some of the animation was "rushed" looking, but all in all, a terrific show!

Meh
ThunderKing621 October 2020
Aladdin is an adventurous romance, mild violent movie that failed to make me care about it.

Aladdin has many iCONIC characters and it has a simp called Alladin.

I like Aladdin but it's not anywhere near my fav. It's a simp movie about a prince getting a girl on his flying carpet. Evil ugly guy appears and so dose a giant genie.

The genie can grant anything but still fails to make this movie and characters interesting.

Live action Aladdin looks like hashy seagull droppings.

Verdict: Meh.

Arabian Nights
hellraiser721 July 2014
I really love the film "Aladin" it's one of my favorite films from Disney because I've had a fascination with fantasy based in the Arabian setting. The fact that they were making a TV series based on it blew me away and surprisingly this show both met and exceeded my expectations. This show is another under the radar gem, which I'll admit is weird to say since it's derived from an unforgettable movie and this show had popularity. But despite it as time went on it just became forgotten and became a lost relic (no DVD/Blu Ray release which sucks hopefully they'll consider doing it soon).

It also to me one of the better movie to TV adaptations that actually work along the others that work like "Highlander" and "From Dusk Till Dawn"; because it was one of those rare examples that shows you can do more with characters, expand the mythos of their story, but most importantly stand on their own.

The animation is very good, same with the music, action is solid, but there are three things for me that really make the show work, for one thing the show expands on it's mythos and world by adding in other types of mythology Egyptian, Brazilian, Greek, and others. This I personally think is an awesome idea and it makes sense since Aladdin is a fantasy story so whose to say he's not living in a fantasy world where anything goes; this also in a way give the show a bit of educational value just showing how broad the fantasy genre really is.

The fact that not just the main characters develop but also the supporting characters as well. They all have something to do and at times have episodes based on them which shows you can do more with certain characters.

The show also has a really solid rogue gallery, most of the villains are memorable. Like Abusmal (played by Jason Alexander) and his subordinate (played well by Keith David one of my favorite actors), I just love the dynamic between both of them mainly it's the subordinate I think is funnest, he has this dry sarcastic witism and it's obvious he's smarter than Abusmal since his boss is a complete idiot he practically has to finish his sentences for him; He's aware of that and you can tell rolls his eyes every time he knows his boss will do something stupid, he's simply using his boss as a means to an end. This dynamic is great because it's pretty much a reversal on how the boss is usual the smartest and running things and the lackey is stupid and susceptible to control.

But my favorite villain is Mirage, she is great from the fact of how powerful she really is which makes her not the easiest opponent to beat. But just the fact that she is a total b....the thought of Aladin and Jasmine or anyone in love always motivates her to kill them or make them miserable for some unknown reason.

But the third is the fact that we see both Aladin and Jasmine have a real functioning love relationship, which I think is great and a bit revolutionary because animated shows at the time never really had that. It was also a primary example of a functional couple done the right way. They both have their ups and downs, help each other, have passion, and both do get challenged both physically and mentally which at times made you feel pathos for them and all the more wanted both of them to win and continue being happy together, which is something all couples want.

Like any hidden treasures in Arabian fantasies this is a treasure worth uncovering.

Exciting new adventures.
Animany9419 August 2017
This series based on the beloved Aladdin is actually pretty good with new exciting adventures and interesting new faces both in and outside the city of Agrabah. The bad guys they encounter are especially good.

Definitely worth watching, but try to ignore Genie which is not funny and at times just plain annoying. Iago is funnier than him and that explains a lot.

Not that Iago IS not funny, he actually has some pretty good lines here and there, and if you can tolerate Gilbert Gottfried's voice, then it is no problem.

This is not the movie!
charliote135 August 2008
As many of you know the series was thought of as an adaptation of the movie but this is a continuation of the Return of Jafar. This series was necessary because of the depth and closure to all the characters that many of us don't get with many series. In this see the many obstacles that Aladdin faced trying to show people(especially the Palace Guard Razoul) that he was sultan material, Jasmine showed that she was a more defensive strong character that she was tough enough, and more Aladdins' past more revealed in this series(minus the whole King of Thieves). I know many of us didn't like that there was no Robin Williams but the Disney Company screwed up and it was settled. I gave Dan Castellaneta a fair chance and the result. He was a good recovery and still the Genie was still Genie. His voice was good too so no harm no foul. In all a great series and it really is the best series out there that makes pop culture and history fun to learn.

Very average considering that it's Disney
buddhadan-111 September 2006
Please allow me to preface my review of the Aladdin series with my view of the movie.

I loved it, just as I love most animated Disney movies to date. The animation was awesome, the characters full, the story is detailed and the humor is evident in most of the movie.

I truly wish that I could say the same for the Aladdin series.

I feel that the series, just as Disney does with their direct to DVD movies, was a severe let down. Since it's Disney, this let down isn't as bad as if it had been just about any other group, but it is still sad.

The animation is average for Disney, the stories are standard Saturday morning fare, and the characters haven't really changed much. Since it's Disney, I have higher expectations and regretfully the series didn't quite meet those. On it's own, it's a cartoon series that is slightly above average, with detailed fun characters and stories that keep you enthralled.

I just wish that they would put the same effort into their series that they do for their theatrical releases, then we can truly say that they are living up to their original quality work.

Hey, it's Aladdin :)
Merkal9 July 2002
In my humble personal opinion Aladdin is Disney's best animated classic ever. So naturally I watched the series, and watched again, and watched again. Disney gives the main character more personally, the good sides but also the flaws and okay sometimes they miss and make a main character out of character. Al and Jas meet many new friends and about the same on enemies. Friends like the people of Odiferans, barbarians that aren't that smart and enjoy stinking cheese or Sadira a semi-friend, semi-villian street girl just like Aladdin does everything in her sand powers to make Aladdin fall in love with her. Take the mysterius Fashir, a blind old man that knows Aladdin's future. Some are smart and power like the mighty wizard Mozenrath or the catty sorceress Mirage others are not so smart and not nearly has powerful like the thief Abis Mal or the inventor Mechanicles (though he has brains.

If you liked Aladdin then you'll certainly enjoy watching Disney's Aladdin the series.

Good show!!!!!
sethn1724 September 2006
Haven't you had enough "Aladdin" already????? No? Good!!!!! Let's begin!!!!!

1994 was so successful for Disney that, because of the success of the "Aladdin" film, they came out not only with the first video-only movie/sequel ("The Return of Jafar"), but like what they have done with "The Little Mermaid," they have done the same with "Aladdin," and it became a Disney Afternoon cartoon.

In it, there are more adventures with Aladdin, Jasmine, Iago (now a good character), Abu, Carpet, and let's not forget the Genie!!!!! Also, there are new villains, new places, new stories, and a whole lot more!!!!! What's great about this show is that Aladdin's adventures didn't end in the movie!!!!!

"Aladdin: The Series" is awesome!!!!!

You really can't beat the original. This was my favorite Disney movie as a kid.

Revisiting this has not changed that. Hoping next year's live-action will at least come close to how good this one is.

4.5/5. RIP Robin Williams.

Well, if you liked the movie, then...
MovieAddict201611 March 2004
...you may find this rip-off TV adaptation fun. It's a silly, pointless cash-in, but also quite entertaining.

I can't believe that Scott Weinger actually returned to do the vocals. Oh, never mind, I can.

It's the many adventures of Aladdin! Luckily, the show actually retains much of the spirit of the film (which I rate 5/5), and that's quite refreshing. It's a lot better than some TV show adaptations.

If you liked the movie, give this a go.

If not, then stay away.

Overall rating: 4/5 stars.

Brings Back Childhood Memories...
Ginger8729 August 2004
"Aladdin" was one of my favorite T.V. shows when I was little. I was 6 years old when it premiered and I remember waking up early Saturday mornings with my sister to watch this show along with "The Little Mermaid" T.V. series. I loved this show and I loved the movie.

I especially loved the theme song of this show and my favorite character was Abu, he was so cute. My sister's favorite character was Jasmine. I also liked the magic carpet and I used to wish I had one of my own. My favorite episode was "The Secret of Dagger Rock".

Overall I really enjoyed this show when I was little and I still enjoy it now whenever I get a chance to watch it. I give this show 9/10 stars.

If you like the movie you'll probably like the TV series
CmHowell994 May 2003
I remember getting up to watch these kinds of shows as a child. One time Abis Mal put a curse in the Sultan's bathing oils but Iago used them and had until sundown to get the cure but in the end he cleverly reversed the spell on Abis Mal. Another time Abu kept stealing fruit out of trees and Rasoul told him if he stole one more piece of fruit he'd throw Abu in prison. Another time A little king that lived over a recious area was always unhappy and that meant bad weather for everyone so Aladdin and company had to keep him happy until he could keep himself happy. There was also an episode where Aladdin and Abu got into a fight about his kletomania so he ran away and went to live with a bad guy and helped him steal something. There was another episode where Aladdin told Jasmine she wouldn't know the first thing about being a street rat so she got angry and spent a day at The Marketplace as a street rat. I also saw an episode where Abis Mal stole Genie's lamp and the Genie met a female genie along the way and in the end Abis Mal decided to become the girl genie's new master.

If you liked the film you might like the TV series.

Good adaptation of the movies
Op_Prime4 January 2000
This was a good series and a good adaptation of the popular films. There was a lot of action in this long running cartoon series as well as humor. Most of the cast from the movies were here for this series. While some were not, most notably of course would be Robin Williams who voiced the Genie in two of the movies. Dan Castellaneta (Homer from The Simpsons) came in to voice the Genie and in my opinion sounds a lot like Williams. A fun series for the entire family.

Aladdin is probably my favorite disney movie. This series is one that really has good stories as it develops more on the characters. I don't really know what happened with The Return of Jafar, it was this series, but the animation seems so off in it. It wasn't that bad, but I think it scared a lot of people away from the series, too bad.

Simply Amazing
chopra_6 March 2005
I feel that Disney's each and every and any animation or movie is excellently worked up on, in-spite of the fact that most of these stories are old or retold. All of them are a "Whole New World". 'Aladdin' stands out for, it has evilness of Iago, Geniee who more than an entertainer, handsome Aladdin, beautiful Jasmine and ; Rug and Fur to go with each other. It will be good if they did not put fat people-I don't want obesity to be confused with cuteness, that of Sultan. Wonderful music, cute voices, amazing sites, sceneries and locations especially voices of kids in Rollie Pollie Mollie. Their a few problems like-We don't know about Al's parents and why nobody has any siblings or cousins.

Take the movie "Aladdin", kill Aladdin's personality, take away Robin Williams, mix bad animation with bad jokes, throw in boring plot lines, and basically you've got Aladdin the TV series. I don't what's worse: Aladdin the TV series, or Tarzan the TV series, which is basically a rip off of Aladdin. Do yourself a favor and watch "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" instead. It's superior in every way.
