- The Australian DVD was made using the cut UK version, meaning it has 13 seconds of dialogue cut despite no previous censorship problems. VHS, theatrical and television versions are all intact.
- The film was originally released to UK cinemas uncut with a 12 certificate. Since the 12 certificate prohibited entry to anyone under that age, regardless of the presence of a guardian, many cinema owners felt that they were missing out on a large potential audience, and a version was eventually passed PG, after the removal of 13 seconds of dialogue referring to "cunning linguistics", "horizontal mambo" and other crude mentions of sexual foreplay during the restaurant scene. All video, laserdisc and DVD versions released in the UK were similarly edited to secure the less restrictive rating. The uncut version was submitted to the BBFC in 2003, but they felt that having both cut- and uncut versions on the market together would confuse consumers, and so cuts were repeated. It was not until November 2012 when all cuts were fully waived by the BBFC, and a 12 certificate was given to the film. Their website outlines the history of the film in detail.
- On Film 4 (UK Channel) the bad profanity is cut out. The following scenes are edited due to profanity. I'll kill that misogyny bastard who invented heels (the part where Daniel goes back to his apartment as Mrs Doubtfire). Oh Shit(when the mask fell out the window) Back off asshole beat it. Broke my bag the bastard.(when the thugs were after Mrs Doubtfire's bag). Touch me again and I'll drown ya bastard(when Stu touched Mrs Doubtfire during the resort). I'm like a pissing racehorse(when Mrs Doubtfire sat down with Mr Lundy instead of Daniel himself). Oh no I killed the bastard (when Stu was choking on the pepper at the restaurant).
- On Disney + the scene where Mrs Doubtfire is on about Rupenforeskin is mentioned during the restaurant scene to which Stu(Pierce Brosnan) says Mrs Doubtfire please. On the DVD however this scene is cut out,yet the Bluray release has it included.
- When aired on Fox Family, all profanities were cut out, including words like Hell and Damn; however the scene where Daniel imitates Porky Pig and tells Lou to piss off is still intact.
- Over thirty minutes of deleted scenes are shown on the DVD, including a long subplot of Mrs. Doubtfire getting her revenge against Gloria, the busybody neighbor living next door.
