The ridiculous side of the force
ivo-moelans17 February 2006
***MAJOR SPOILERS***

Yasmine Bleeth probably was casted to make you pay for an entrance ticket, but since that assignment has been accomplished when the film begins, she is promptly killed of. A rookie police officer (Jason Gedric) has to share his body with the "soul" of a murdered colleague (Gary Hudson) who happened to be dabbling in mysterious eastern "arts". He (they), together with his widow (Kim Delaney), go after the killer.

The plot is unbelievable, and even with the utmost effort of suspension of disbelief you cannot bring yourself to go along with this drivel. In comparison the plot of The Sixth Sense – although also not an example of realism - is made utterly digestible. None of the actors seem to believe this story also, which most of the time results in wooden, painful expressions as if they were thinking 'I can't believe these words are passing my lips'. Neither can the viewer. The development of the plot is so inept that the viewer is always at least three steps ahead. So, no dawning realizations, no surprises, no excitement.

I suppose it depends on your attitude, but this movie can be entertaining, be it for the wrong reasons: once you have adjusted to the fact that it is not going to get any better (soon, or ever), you can relax and look at the contrived efforts of the actors to salvage this farce with gentle cynicism an be (very) mildly amused in the process.

Pathetically predictable. That's it.

You can really write a better story by yourself. You can really act better than this by yourself. You can really direct this better by yourself. Hell, you can even afford this better by yourself.

This movie is what I call a b movie wannabe. It´s not even an amusing one. If you really really are bored, you can watch this. But beware, it´s got the most stereotyped hero (a cute and daring rookie), and the most stereotype kind of villain. You always know who it is, but you really just can´t help laughing!!!!!

Avoid at all costs.

Good cop, bad cop, ghost cop.

Warning: Spoilers
This starts off interestingly enough but quickly dissolves into a cheesy, convoluted mess involving murdered cop Gary Hudson whose soul and memories are somehow transfered into the mind of another cop (Jason Gedrick) who has no idea that he's supposed to solve not only Hudson's killing but the murder of pregnant prostitute (Yasmin Bleeth) whose death is unresolved. Hudson's widow (Kim Delaney) doesn't understand why Gedrick keeps bothering her as if they knew each other, but thanks to Aki Aleong's therapeutic treatment, all is explained, and soon a killer reveals themselves to Gedrick, someone a bit too close to home. What could have been a mixture of action, mystery and spiritual fantasy dissolves into complete silliness, leaving many questions unanswered and a few plot developments unresolved. Not hideous, but it's easy to see why this got shelved for theatrical release and ended up going straight to the video shelves of stores who decided to give it a chance.
