FAQ Sommaire

A Note Regarding Spoilers

The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. Spoiler tags are used sparingly in order to make the page more readable.

For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, (c) profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for Forrest Gump can be found here.

Is this movie based on a book?

Yes. Forrest Gump (1986) was written by American novelist Winston Groom. The novel was adapted for the movie by American screenwriter Eric Roth.

Those who have both seen the movie and read the book say that there are quite a few differences. Generally, they say that the book is even sillier than the movie and that the book doesn't have the sad stuff that the movie has. Specifically, neither Jenny nor her mother die in the book. Forrest lives with Jenny for a long time before Jenny gets fed up with him and leaves. There's a big part where Forrest spends time with his buddy Sue the orangutan.

What's a "Million-Dollar Wound" ?

A million-dollar wound referenced in the movie is a military slang referring to a type of wound received in combat which is serious enough to get the person sent away from the fighting, but is not fatal, nor will it leave the person permanently crippled.

What happens in Jenny's dorm room?

Forrest sees Jenny topless and he appears to have an ejaculation for the first time in his life. He ruins her roommate's bathrobe, and Jenny replies that it's okay, she doesn't like her roommate anyway, and her roommate hears everything.
