In the first dining room scene, as Norman leaves the table, Giddy offers Estella some tea. Moments later in the scene, as Tony is speaking, Giddy and Estella can be seen repeating the action in the background.
In the initial scene, the Campions move from the house to the pond to wait for the Lindsays, with Estella carrying her suitcase. But in the next scene when they are woken up by the pond side by the Lindsays, we find in addition to her suitcase, their big trunk is also lying next to them.
The handwriting of the word "honey", made of salt, on the table, changes.
As Sheela and Pru leave with their dates, Giddy can be seen sitting with her hands in her lap. In the next shot, her elbow is on the table with her hand against her face.
When Sheela teases Giddy about the sea slugs, Giddy is alternately lying on her side or her back between shots.
The beautiful green steam locomotive that is seen in an early scene is a NSWGR 38 class, which first entered service in 1942. ( the movie is set around the year 1930. )
The film is set in Springwood and the nearby Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains, and part of it is filmed in Norman Lindsay's house, but many of the scenery is incongruous. In reality, the house is a relatively short drive from Springwood station, and would not involve a drive into the wilderness. Many of the bushland scenes are filmed in the Upper Mountains where the valleys are deeper and the cliffs more majestic than in Springwood and Faulconbridge. For example, one shot shows the Three Sisters in Katoomba, 30 km away. The town of Springwood bears little resemblance to the actual suburb, except for the Honeyset General Store, which names a family of shopkeepers. There never was a "Sir Charles Dilke Hotel" in Springwood. The film also features a treeless hill and a creek bed where the children play, neither of which are features of the real Springwood.
The children who are playing in the creek are given Irish names, and Devlin also has an Irish name, but Springwood never had a particularly high Irish population. The most prominent church in Springwood is the Frazer Memorial Presbyterian Church, which was built in the 1890s, before the time of the film.
