The official cause of death for David Gail, 58, the former “Port Charles” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” actor who died last month after being found unresponsive by emergency personnel, has been determined, reports Deadline via a statement released by the late actor’s mother, Mary Painter.
According to a toxicology report, Gail’s cause of death has been determined to be the result of “brain and heart complications following drug intoxication involving amphetamines, cocaine, ethanol and fentanyl,” the outlet reported on Friday. The causing condition was anoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (a brain injury due to lack of blood flow) following resuscitation from cardiopulmonary arrest due to drug intoxication.
Following reports of Gail’s death, TMZ, citing law enforcement, reported that the actor died of a possible drug overdose, with his death under investigation by police, pending toxicology testing. No foul play was suspected.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" might have started out as a cult hit, but it's surely now reached the status of all-time-great TV show. The series lasted for a full seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and while it has become complicated to love in the wake of startling accusations against showrunner and creator Joss Whedon, the show itself produced some of the best moments in TV history.
As it went on, "Buffy" dealt more and more with serious and weighty issues, making for some truly heartbreaking "Buffy" moments. By the time the fifth season rolled around, Whedon and co. were producing harrowing and affecting explorations of grief with such classics as "The Body," which opens with an unforgettable one-take sequence in which Buffy's mom dies. Joss Whedon still considers that episode the best thing he's ever done.

Many an older film discovery will inspire revelations of “She’s in this?” — but none quite like the 1996 indie “Foxfire.” A cult classic beloved by queer audiences, “Foxfire” features early performances not only from Angelina Jolie, but singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis and queer icon and model Jenny Shimizu. It is also, famously (for those who care about these kinds of things), the project that introduced Jolie and Shimizu, who had a serious relationship throughout the late ’90s.
Based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, “Foxfire” follows five high school girls who take revenge on an abusive teacher, unwittingly forming a misfit crew of renegade feminists. They are radicalized by a hitchhiking firebrand who appears out of thin air, played by a young Jolie in motorcycle boots and an androgynous messy bob. Though she had done a few films prior, “Foxfire” established the magnetic bad girl type (and forever queer thirst...

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Review by Roger Carpenter
In his heyday, director/producer Ovidio Assonitis was affectionately known as “The Rip-Off King” due to his blatant copying of popular, more expensive hit films. Thus, we have Beyond the Door (1974), an Exorcist-style film; Tentacles (1977), a killer octopus film in the vein of Jaws; and even the sequel Piranha II: The Spawning (1981), which he famously directed after firing James Cameron shortly after filming commenced. Always on the lookout for the next big idea in exploitation, it isn’t surprising that he would also jump on the slasher bandwagon as well. Madhouse is Assonitis’ entry into that particular subgenre of film.
Though produced in late 1980 or early 1981 in Savannah, Georgia, Madhouse wasn’t released stateside until 1983. So while the film bears more than a passing resemblance to the classic slasher Happy Birthday to Me (also made in 1981), it is unclear how much of a direct rip-off one film is of the other.

"She saved the world. A lot." Believe it or not, it's been 20 years since Buffy Summers first began saving the world with the series premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the now-defunct WB. Bowing midseason as a replacement for the Aaron Spelling-produced Savannah on Monday, March 10, 1997, the iconic series would quickly make Sarah Michelle Gellar a star and help put the fledgling network on the map. Seven seasons, two deaths for its heroine, one spin-off series and a network swap later, creator Joss Whedon and his team delivered 144 episodes of (usually) groundbreaking, thrilling television. But no one has 144 hours to sit around and celebrate a show's 20 year anniversary—not even one...

We know this is mind-blowing information, but the characters in "Pretty Little Liars'" actually have lives beyond hanging out with their omnipresent sociopath stalker. Yep, Spencer Hastings, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin and Emily Fields are in their senior year of High School -- which means college is just around the corner. Of course, it's slightly difficult to get excited about school when you're being harassed on a daily basis, which brings us to this week's recap, in which the little liars juggle college, family, their favorite deranged psycho, and their fleet of significant others -- one of whom used to stalk them (cough, Ezra, cough).
Mike Is More Evil Than Ever (Might Be A Vampire), Aria Makes A New Friend Good news everyone: Rosewood is holding a blood drive, which is obviously a great opportunity for A to steal the liars' bodily fluids and plant them all over town.

A review of tonight's "Better Call Saul!" coming up just as soon as I take off the space blanket... "Wow, you got a mouth on you." -Tuco Our second "Better Call Saul" installment is really two episodes in one: a long resolution of the Tuco fiasco, followed by Jimmy trying to get his act together to avoid ever being in a situation like that again. The former suggests a "Breaking Bad" rehash filtered through the personality of the new main character, while, the latter suggests... something else. And given that the episode ends with Jimmy being approached by Tuco's pal Nacho, it's not clear yet which version of the show will be triumphant. What is clear even at this early stage, though, is how entertaining it is to watch Jimmy try to talk himself out of trouble again and again. So, yes, the trip to the desert is a vintage Walter White scene,...

What had ETonline readers buzzing this week?
1. Jamie Dornan to Replace Hunnam in '50 Shades'
Well, that was quick! A little more than a week after Charlie Hunnam dropped out of playing the kinky billionaire Christian Grey, the erotic book-turned-movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, has cast a new leading man!
ETonline can confirm that Irish actor Jamie Dornan (Once Upon a Time, Marie Antoinette) will replace the Sons of Anarchy star in the role of Christian Grey, opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, in the upcoming film adaptation of E.L. James' sexy bestseller.
At this time, Universal and Focus Features have declined to comment on the casting news (first reported by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter).
On October 12, a statement was released by the studios producing the movie explaining that Hunnam's busy TV schedule made it impossible for him to sufficiently prepare for the role of Christian Grey.

On The Glades this week, it didn't take Jim very long to figure out that cattle ranching in Florida is big business, as "Happy Trails" featured him investigating two neighboring ranch owners for the murder of a ranch hand.
It’s a coin toss which I had more trouble buying into: that Holly (Danielle Panabaker) had time to enter do both run a huge cattle ranch and enter into professional rodeos... or that Willa (Jamie Luner) had a thick southern (almost Georgian) accent growing up in southern Florida.
But then I remembered that Luner spent two seasons on Savannah and that no TV episode about cowboys is complete without the required rodeo shot and I let it go.
With only one episode left on The Glades Season 4, I really hope the writers can see how cookie cutter the episodes are becoming and can break out of that mold next year.

This may not sit well with the army of Beliebers, but George Eads gets to call Justin Bieber "a little punk" on "CSI" Thursday night (Feb. 17).
"Well, his character was being a punk," Eads tells Zap2it in the video above. "So I had to."
Bieber makes his much-publicized return to the show in Thursday's episode, playing Jason McCann, who has a thing for blowing up stuff and crosses paths with Eads' Nick Stokes once again. Nick is not unhappy with that at first, but things take a turn.
"Initially he thinks [Jason] is on his side, that he's trying to help Nick out," Eads told us Thursday morning after visiting the Ktla Morning Show. "When it turns out he was in on it, it messes with Nick's temper a little bit. Nick's been through a lot over the course of 11 seasons -- he's been picked on, been buried, kicked around,...

This week, EW University takes a look at the people who helped shape the modern TV landscape. Our first class on TV Auteurs takes a look at the illustrious, often licentious oeuvre of Aaron Spelling. Class is now in session! Yes, kids, the late Aaron Spelling gave television more than the future star of Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. Far, far more, in fact. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Spelling holds the record for the most executive producer credits: 218. That alone, of course, does not an auteur make, but from The Mod Squad to Charlie’s Angels, from Beverly Hills, 90210, to Charmed, a distinct and almost incomprehensibly influential vision emerged. Spelling practically invented the modern TV guilty indulgence, a formula tougher to execute than it looks. When you're watching Burn Notice or Gossip Girl or Desperate Housewives and that "zap" hits the pleasure center of your brain,...

Jamie Luner has joined the cast of ABC's new drama 10-8 as a regular. Luner will play a police officer in the Spelling TV/Touchstone TV series, an edgy dramedy about Los Angeles Sheriff's Department rookies and their trainers. It stars Danny Nucci and Ernie Hudson. The project reunites Luner with Spelling TV as the actress starred in the Spelling-produced Savannah for the WB Network and Melrose Place for Fox. In 1999, Luner stepped in as the female lead of the NBC crime drama Profiler following the departure of Ally Walker. Luner, who most recently starred in the Sci Fi Channel telefilm Threshold, is repped by Agency for the Performing Arts' Jeff Witjas and manager Martin Berneman.
