Anecdotes:

Elements of the original script of the film written by Josh Friedman entitled "Dead Drop" in which Morgan Freeman's character in the film frames Keanu Reeves' character for murder and industrial espionage were kept with subsequent rewrites, with the final shooting draft of the script having Freeman playing more of a mysterious mentor-like government agent and Reeves' character still a scientist plus adding the Rachel Weisz character.

Goofs:

Continuity: In one scene, while Rachel and Keanu are running through the planetarium, Rachel's coat was zipped, then unzipped, then zipped again.

Disappointing, considering all the talent involved

Sometimes you wonder how talented actors end up in annoyingly mediocre movies. Chain Reaction is a good example: it was directed by Andrew Davis and it stars Keanu Reeves and Morgan Freeman. Considering the talent involved, you could expect quality entertainment from such a team. But no, instead we are given a disposable no-brainer that disappoints in many ways. The screenwriters obviously tried to make an intelligent script about using hydrogen as a source of energy, but it just doesn´t make much sense. Yet, despite its numerous flaws, Chain Reaction certainly entertains for its running time. Just turn your brain off and expect nothing special. Not worth renting, wait until its on TV.
