Xbox-exclusive Sea of Thieves is setting sail towards PlayStation waters. In a historic event, Microsoft has announced that four original games will be making their way to rival platforms, the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Rare moments like this weaken the invisible barrier between platforms and bring into question the future of the industry.

Ministry Kick Off 2024 Tour in San Francisco with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly: Photos + Video
Ministry kicked off their 2024 North American tour with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly at the historic Warfield Theater in San Francisco on Tuesday evening (February 27th), just three days before the release of their 16th studio album, Hopiumforthemasses. As it had been a few months since Ministry were on the road, they were definitely refreshed and re-energized, delivering a set of both new and classic songs to a near sold-out venue.
Ministry wasted no time playing the new stuff, as they kicked off their set with five songs from Hopiumforthemasses, beginning with the singles “B.D.E.” (Big Dick Energy) and “Just Stop Oil.” Frontman and ring leader Al Jourgensen was his usual frantic self, belting out the lyrics while engaging with the fans up against the barricade. After a blistering version of “Goddam White Trash,” he and the band were joined by Jello Biafra for “Aryan Embarrassment” (a...

“Righteous Thieves” ends with its protagonists having a wee festival of self-congratulation, sipping champagne as they promise themselves — and perhaps threaten viewers — they’ll have more adventures like the one that’s just wrapped. Their delight is not infectious, because this dopey caper’s prior 90 minutes have been rather like hoisting a flute of promised champers only to taste flat Fresca.
Director Anthony Nardolillo and writer Michael Corcoran’s film strikes a pose of sly ingeniousness throughout that is uncorroborated by any actual cleverness, surprise, wit, tension, thrills or much else you’d hope for in a high-end-heist tale. The “righteous” part — that our heroes are reclaiming artworks stolen by Nazis long ago — feels no less superficial than everything else in this uninspired genre piece. Lionsgate opens it in seven U.S. theatrical markets March 10, simultaneous with digital and on demand release.

In Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Chris Pine’s main character is a bard, a character class which can provide a refreshing and lighthearted take on the epic fantasy genre. Essentially a fantasy-comedy heist movie, the newest cinematic Dungeons and Dragons story is clearly going for a different style from other fantasy movies and TV shows. With the central character being someone other than a stoic warrior or a troubled chosen one, they just might pull it off, too! Dungeons & Dragons (or Dnd for short), the world’s most famous tabletop roleplaying game (Ttrpg), is well known for its character classes.

A film that rewards patience, The Tuba Thieves, despite its title, is not a quirky heist picture but rather a meditation on the presence and absence of sound framed by both recent and further-removed history. It’s directed by d/Deaf visual artist Alison O’Daniel, who crafts a rich visual and auditory project that’s probably best experienced in an acoustically perfect environment. One might at least need a high-end pair of noise-canceling headphones to simulate the optimal screening venue. Open-captioned by default, The Tuba Thieves is an immersive journey that perhaps approximates the trials of limited hearing with a structure that is either a cinematic meditation or frustrating for those seeking to impose some sense of order over the raw material we’re presented.
Often defying convention, we’re initially told the genesis of the film is a year-spanning string of instrument heists at LA high schools that very likely aren’t related.

Netflix spends an exorbitant amount of time and money developing complicated algorithms to cater to users’ viewing needs. But ever since they started their Top 10 movies list, the only semblance of a pattern I can see is that folks really seem to enjoy under-seen and underrated action movies. Why else would the 2017 Jamie Foxx flick, Sleepless, be #2 on the Top 10 movies list and #6 on the overall charts?
This comes after a pair of Gerard Butler films, Angel Has Fallen and Den of Thieves, also dominated the charts over the past few weeks. Fallen is the third entry in a Die Hard ripoff franchise and Thieves is a blatant knockoff of Heat to the point where they should be sued for plagiarism. That being said, both offer up some mindless entertainment that can easily occupy you for a few hours.

Les Malheurs de Sophie
Director: Christophe Honoré
Writers: Christophe Honoré, Gilles Tourand
One of France’s most underrated directors (at least judging on the level of attention he receives overseas) is Christophe Honoré, who is perhaps best known for his 2007 film, Love Songs, which played in the Main Competition at Cannes. A unique and utterly charming musical, Honore followed up his collaboration with Alex Beaupain with less success for 2011’s Beloved, which closed the Cannes Film Festival. Usually casting either Louis Garrell, Chiara Mastroianni or both in nearly all his features, his latest, Metamorphoses (2014), an adaptation of the famed text by Greek poet Ovid, premiered at Venice Days with little fanfare. Honore’s also responsible for the provocative George Bataille adaptation, Ma Mere (2004) which features an infamous performance from Isabelle Huppert. His tenth feature film, Les Malheurs de Sophie (Sophie’s Woes), is loosely based on a famed children’s...

Catherine Deneuve: 2013 European Film Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Catherine Deneuve has been named the recipient of the the European Film Academy’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for her "outstanding body of work." And outstanding it is. Yesterday, I posted an article about Dirk Bogarde (Victim, Death in Venice, Despair), one of the rare performers anywhere on the planet to have consistently worked with world-class international filmmakers. The Paris-born Catherine Deneuve, who turns 70 next October 22, is another one of those lucky actors. (Photo: Catherine Deneuve at the Potiche premiere at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.) Deneuve’s directors have included an eclectic and prestigious list of filmmakers from various countries. Those include Belle de Jour and Tristana‘s Luis Buñuel; Le Sauvage and La Vie de Château‘s Jean-Paul Rappenau; The Hunger‘s Tony Scott; Un Flic‘s Jean-Pierre Melville; The Mississippi Mermaid and The Last Metro‘s François Truffaut...

The ice-cool French beauty, now 69, has played everything from a bourgeois housewife turned prostitute to a bisexual vampire, and worked with a formidable roster of auteurs throughout her career: Luis Bunuel ("Belle de Jour," "Tristana"), Roman Polanski ("Repulsion"), Jacques Demy ("The Umbrellas of Cherbourg"), Jean-Pierre Melville ("Un Flic"), Francois Truffaut ("The Last Metro"), Andre Techine ("Ma Maison Preferee," "Les Voleurs") and Arnaud Desplechin ("A Christmas Tale") -- and this is just naming a few. Catherine Deneuve: Style, beauty, and talent on TCM tonight A day to rejoice on Turner Classic Movies: Catherine Deneuve, one of the few true Living Film Legends, is TCM’s "Summer Under the Stars" star today, August 12, 2013. Téchiné explores family ruptures through a noir lens
Veteran French director André Téchiné’s (‘Wild Reeds,’ ‘Les Voleurs’) Unforgivable is a deceptively nuanced story that skirts the edges of a crime thriller, without ever cracking the European art film mold. Though richly shot (against the decaying backdrop of Venice, Italy) and thoughtfully directed, the characters’ various volatilities are so precisely orchestrated that they can seem disconnected from real experience. But the ensemble story of love and betrayal is never less than involving, and as the genre façade steadily drops away, Téchiné reveals a deeper fascination with how relationships — family and otherwise — can unravel to the point where “nothing’s where it should be.”
Téchiné’s opening visual metaphor stands in for the psychological and emotional baggage his characters bring to the drama: A tiny tugboat lugs a massive behemoth of a ship into the Venetian harbor. Also arriving in Venice...

Films on the cutting edge. That's how I would describe the 50 movies on this list. While some moviegoers may find it an 'alien' experience to refer to sub-titles in understanding what's happening on the big screen, a good number of audiences are totally enjoying the different and often surprising take by many foreign filmmakers, nothwithstanding the language barrier.
Content-wise, the 50 movies feature stories about war and peace, love and romance, family affairs, coming-of-age tales, cultural and religious diversity, social issues (including prostitution and abortion) and personal - celebrating life or facing death with dignity. Coverage-wise, tMF list down many of the best foreign films from 2000 until last year from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and about 15 other countries in Europe, North and Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve failed to thrill fans during a performance in Italy - the local crowd turned on her for reading her lines in French.
The Oscar-nominated star took to the stage at Tuscany's La Versiliana cultural festival to recite lines from George Perec's book Je Me Souviens (I remember).
Although she was accompanied by veteran Italian actor Michele Placido, who read lines in his native tongue, revellers furiously turned on Deneuve when she spoke in French.
The 200-strong crowd booed and shouted at the pair, with some chanting, "Thieves, we want our money back," according to local media.
Following the furore, Deneuve refused to comment on the crowd's anger but Placido admitted it may have been a mistake for the star to speak French.
He added, "These things happen."
Organisers of the festival promised fans they would receive free tickets to another show at the event.
