The senator claims to shooting the man, thinking he was raping his wife, not realizing they're actually having an affair. The firm is hired by an insurance company in the trial of a little boy who got hit by a car, until the company's doctor uncovers evidence the he suffers from an extremely life threatening condition. Everyone is horrified when the insurance company orders them not to reveal that to the boy's parents, putting his life in grave danger. Jimmy, however, refuses to comply with those orders, telling the boy's parents everything - and is shocked to discover Eugene has reported him to the bar, recommending his immediate disbarment.

Lindsay is assigned a case involving a mentally challenged man who was released from prison after DNA evidence exonerated him of the murder of his wife. The man is searching for his daughter, who believed that he murdered his wife, her mother. Ellenor is working on a gang killing case in which Alan Lowe is using unscrupulous tactics---so much so that he alienates Helen---in order to get the former-gang member's family to turn on him, tactics that endanger a suspect's family. The victim's family, however, sees Alan's gambit far differently.

Joey Herric returns to the firm, surprising everybody when he declares he has passed the bar, and is now a lawyer. He asks for Bobby and Ellenor's help in his first trial, a murder case, where he represents a man accused of killing a woman he was having an affair with. As the trial progresses, they become frustrated when Joey doesn't seem to really be needing their help - until the real reason he wanted them to be there is finally revealed.
