Since the late 80s and her role as Miss Bliss, Hayley Mills has been holding onto a career that has seen her remaining fairly successful as her name has been safely ensconced in the annals of pop culture but hasn’t been touted any more than might be expected for someone whose came was starting to wane a bit by the 90s. That’s not meant to sound cruel if it does, but the reality of the matter is that Mills is one of the many whose fame was something that didn’t skyrocket in such a way after a certain point that

One of my favorite tropes in horror is whenever the creative process and monstrous transformations intersect, which is why Amelia Moses’ Bloodthirsty ended up being right up my proverbial alley. Anchored by a mesmerizing lead performance from Lauren Beatty, and featuring a soundtrack that just kills it from start to finish, Bloodthirsty pulls no punches when it comes to pulling back the layers on just how all-consuming any artistic endeavor can be for creators, but especially those who also happen to be struggling with the fact that they are transforming into a werewolf and there’s not much they can do about it.
In Bloodthirsty, Beatty plays an indie singer named Grey, who is struggling to put together her second album and also happens to be grappling with some vivid nightmares involving her having very lycanthropic eyes, some teeth trauma, and random appearances of blood. She’s been seeing a...

The 1960s might have been among the most prolific times for cinemas around the globe. This applies to Taiwan as well. Still, by the end of the decade and at the beginning of the 1970s, a crises lurked. At that time, Li Han-Hsiang’s company in Taiwan too found itself in financial trouble. To avoid the worst, he brokered “Foor Moods”, an anthology of four mid-length films by four heavy-caliber directors: himself, King Hu, Li Hsing, and Pai Ching-Jui. Inspired by Chinese opera as well as by Pu Songling’s Strange Stories from the Chinese Studio, the they frown upon human vices.
Restored “Four Moods“ is screening at Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh
The segments explore the different feelings experienced by people when confronted with supernatural, Gods’ mills or even a human intervention. These “moods” build up the Chinese language title: Bliss (or Joy), Anger, Sadness, and Happiness. Driven by karmic principles,...

In today’s film news roundup, AMC starts Artisan Films, Gravitas buys “Boy Genius,” Nesta Cooper gets cast opposite Salma Hayek and Rebel Road launches P12 as a distributor.
Marketing Move
AMC Theatres is launching a new program, AMC Artisan Films, as a programming-marketing effort to put a spotlight on character and narrative driven movies as an alternative to blockbusters.
“Because AMC is the industry’s top choice for blockbuster movies, many consumers don’t realize that we play more elevated and celebrated films than anyone else in North America,” said Elizabeth Frank, executive vice president of worldwide programming. “With the launch of AMC Artisan Films, we aim to expose more movie-goers to specialized films and increase their theatrical success.”
Frank said AMC is seeking earlier runs in platform releases while holding films longer in the theater to give audiences time to learn about them from other customers.

Premiere magazine highlighted 10 movie executives to watch in 1990. So what happened to them?
In its May 1990 issue, the sadly-missed Us version of Premiere magazine published an article, highlighting ten young movie executives, and suggesting that these were people with very big futures ahead of them in the industry.
Given that much is written about movie executives, without actually digging much deeper to find out who they actually are, I thought it was worth tracing what happened to these ten, and – 26 years later – whether Premiere was correct in saluting them as the future of the industry. So, er, I did...

Pictured in the article on an office swivel chair with some snazzy purple socks, Lance Young, Premiere wrote, had been “groomed for big things since joining Paramount at the age of 23”. He was 30 at the time the article was published, and...
