Mom the witty matchmaker
macpherr31 May 1999
Helen, Olympia Dukakis (Mr. Holland's Opus, "Joan of Arc" (1999/III) (mini)) is a widow who had cancer. She is fun and witty and has group of old ladies that come to her house to play cards with her and they have fun. Della Reese (Touched by an Angel, Miracle in the Woods) Katie, is Helen's housekeeper and good friend who helped her to raise her kids. Kelly Rowan (Three to Tango) Jane is a dedicated nurse that Helen meets and decides that she is the one to marry her son Tom Rosner, John Stamos (The Marriage Fool). He is a family lawyer and listens to all his clients dirty laundry as they get divorced, and perhaps gets discouraged about marriage after listening all those sad tales. Helen is a really persistent matchmaker, who keeps making Helen and Tom run into each other. They go out, but Tom is not wanting to commit. With the help of Katie who keeps reminding Helen how stubborn and competitive he is, they almost get they together. But Helen's health decays and Tom is really sad goes to a bar and drinks, and a girl from the bar goes to his apartment. Jane goes to his apartment check on Tom, but runs into the girl from bar and gets really mad.

This just a sweet made for TV movie. I really enjoyed watching it. There are few good shows on television to be watched, that the high top television executives should produce more movies like this. If this movie is shown on TV again and if you have not seen it, take time to watch. The movie was not released on video. I recommend it, is a bitter sweet story!

Display of a tender relationship between a mother and her son.

Oh this is a truly enjoyable direct for t.v. movie. I'd also add "tender" as an adequate adjective for this movie.

I don't remember when was the last time I watched it but it was probably around 2000 and 2001 on Warner Channel.

John Stamos once again demonstrates his histrionic qualities and delivers a solid, tender performance. Mrs. Olympia Dukakis also delivers a tender, moving performance.

I really dug the chemistry between Stamos and Dukakis. Both seemed to get along very well and at the same time portray a moving relationship between a care loving mother and a hard working, noble son.

This is a movie to watch with the family if you are in the mood of just watching it and then forgetting about it.

Really like this movie. It is funny and just enjoyable watching it. It is not just a romance movie but also a family drama. There's some sadness, lots of fun and is not boring.
