In love and war...

...nothing is fair. The film Sanna ögonblick starts out innocently enough at a funeral where a middle aged Swedish man, Erik, meets a middle aged Estonian woman, Viivi. It is pretty much love at first sight, but Erik's Estonian born mother, upon finding out that Viivi is the daughter of someone she knew back in Estonia during the war, does not want to have anything to do with her.

By chance Erik and Viivi meet again and their love blossoms, only to find itself in dire straits as soon as Erik's mother finds out. The story follows the ups and downs of the relationship. Will love triumph over the phantoms of the past? This film is a tale of two cities, Stockholm, capital of Sweden, and Tallin, capital of Estonia, which form the colourful decor of this love story that spans the seasons. It is a thorough production with character actors from the old Bergman school. Lena Endre in particular is perfect as Viivi and overshadows at times Krister Henriksson's quite decent portrayal of Erik. One of the better Swedish films of the 1990s.
