Anecdotes:

The characters of "Spike Guy" and "Knife Guy" were added to the movie and inserted into the climax after test audiences found the heroes fighting only Loveless' beauties to be very odd.

Goofs:

Anachronisms: When Grant drives the stake in at the railroad ceremony, there is a clear shot of the flag in the background with 50 stars. From 1867-1877, the US flag had 37 stars.

We're going straight to the wild wild west...

Once again, an old TV series becomes a feature film (in this case, it wasn't a smart idea). In the 19th century, special agent Jim West (Will Smith) and agent/inventor Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) are paired together in an attempt to stop physically disabled bad guy Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh) from killing President Grant (Kline again) and overthrowing the government.

This does have some good ingredients; I don't blame the film-makers or the cast for its lack of success. The problem is the script, which is lame at times; attempts at witty "repartee" mostly fall flat. The film is well-designed, with lots of inventive visuals, but that can't really save it.

I saw this movie mainly just because I generally enjoy Will Smith films. Alas, his talent, and the talents of his co-stars, are wasted (although Kenneth Branagh at least seems to be relishing his role).

I generously give it four out of ten (I'm sure many people would maintain that's too generous, but I'm fairly easy to please; a film would have to REALLY suck for me to give it a one or two rating).
