Frankreich 17.Jh: Landarzt Benjamin liebt die reizende Gastwirtstochter Manette. Doch Manette kennt ihn als unverbesserlichen Schürzenjäger und verlangt vor der Liebe die Heirat. Als Benjamin bereit ist, verweigert Manettes geiziger Vater seine Tochter. Doch der junge Hector hilft dem beim Marquis in Ungnade gefallenen Benjamin.
