Between 1944 and 1967, Troumpa was an area famous for its bars, night clubs, cabarets, and brothels. It was the most famous red light district in Greece, with its clients consisting mostly of sailors and servicemen of the United States Navy. Most of the local brothels and clubs were forced to close in 1967, under orders from the Greek military junta (1967-1974).
