It is NOT the story of a man and his cat Woody Ferris ,this information is erroneous and imdb should delete it.

It is not really a story : a man is in search of his lost fiancée ,Brigitte, who is to marry an awkward lump of a youth, a Sports minister's protégé. This thin plot is only a pretext to pay a tribute to a TV broadcast which the rare happy owners of a TV set could watch on the only French channel in the fifties.

This Sports minister is a woman ,and it's almost an anachronism for the only woman who attained this honor was a Secretary of Health in a short-lived government in 1947-48;it would take Valery Giscard D'Estaing (1974)before a woman regained this high position.

The film is interesting ,but only as a documentary :it's essentially a pretext to show the artists of the time: stand -up comics (good untimely interventions from Fernand Reynaud), singers such as Juliette Greco;both Charles (Aznavour and Trenet ) are featured .Trenet's magnificent "la mer" (covered as "beyond the sea " by bobby Darin) is shamefully spoiled by dumb interventions .

This is a tribute to TV host Jean Nohain whose broadcast was very popular at the time ;and an opportunity to let the TV audience into the wings of the theater where it would take place. Not only a show, but also a little help from "36 chandelles " friends to make some members of their audience their dream come true : a miner has just returned from NYC , a fairy tale at the time! And thanks to the broadcast and its MC, the young man meets again his beloved fiancée.
