Great stuff

A great soap from Manoel Carlos.

Great cast, story, sets and all that.

The opening is one my favorites, using a wonderful songs and pictures from the life of Regina Duarte and Gabriela Duarte (mother and daughter in real life and in the soap).

The biggest compliment goes to Suzana Vieira, perfect in her portrayal of Branca, the main "villain" in the story and and amazing character overall. Had some great one-liners, always ready to offend anyone she wanted.

Since this kind of material is never re-releases, there's a good chance that those who missed will never have the opportunity to check it. Too bad, But if you do, trust me, you won't regret it. At least try to find some of Branca's scenes.

Totally unlikely.

For those who enjoy a soap opera, Brazil is fertile ground, as the overwhelming majority of general TV channels in the country transmit, on average, four soap operas daily. Invariably, much of this material eventually goes around the world, being bought and broadcast in other countries. One of the most permeable markets for Brazilian teledramaturgy is, of course, my country, due to its cultural and linguistic proximity. I watched "Por Amor" only once: it was around 2014, when it was reprized.

The plot consists of a mother who decides to give her own child to her daughter after she suffers the death of her first baby. Thus, she ends up being the mother of her own little brother without his knowledge. Seems unlikely? Weell, I think such a thing would hardly happen and is totally far-fetched. Its just another pearl of Manoel Carlos's uncreative mind, which has the particular craze of calling "Helena" to almost all the female heroines of the soap operas he writes. To make matters worse, this soap opera is so monotonous, so boring, so melodramatic and lame that it becomes totally uninteresting. I used to watch because there was nothing better happening on TV, or because they were going to broadcast something good after the soap opera ended, so I kept waiting for it to end.
