Only one episode remains in Season 3 of “Chucky,” and what a bloody road it’s been so far, especially for actor Devon Sawa. The actor has now officially died twice on screen this season, pulling double duty as President James Collins and body double Randall Jenkins.
If you thought Chucky’s ruthless eye-gouging of the President was bloody, this week’s Episode 7 traps Randall Jenkins in an elevator that feels straight out of an iconic horror classic.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with series creator Don Mancini and actor Devon Sawa about that ultra-bloody death sequence and how the actor inspires Mancini’s writing on the series.
Mancini explains, “Devon’s a bit of a muse. Idle Hands and Final Destination is where my Devon Sawa fandom started, like a lot of people; although yours may have started with Casper. I was a bit too old for that. But it’s really...

If you had to choose which horror movie villain you could outlast, chances are Chucky would be at the top of most peoples’ lists. Come on, he’s like two and a half feet tall, how could you not win? Why not just kick him across the room? Well, this can work every now and then, but Chucky is one diabolical doll and sooner or later he’ll find a way to get you. But imagine this gets swapped: Chucky is the oversized one matching wits and knives with someone – or something – a fraction of his size. That’s just the scenario Devon Sawa pictures, wondering what it would be like if the hand from Idle Hands were to take on the Good Guy.

If there’s ever been a classic horror film that doesn’t need a sequel, it’s Carrie. Stephen King’s debut novel was masterfully adapted into a 1976 film by Brian De Palma and quickly became a runaway hit. In fact it’s likely because of the film’s success that the prolific author so quickly became a household name. Published in 1974, the semi-epistolary novel follows Carrie White, a high school senior who’s spent her life taking abuse from her ultra-religious mother and savage classmates. Finally pushed too far, Carrie unleashes her telekinetic power with a fiery vengeance that lays waste to the cruel and kind alike. De Palma faithfully adapted King’s original novel to create a terrifying exploration of long-term abuse and self-defense gone terribly wrong. The image of Carrie (Sissy Spacek) covered in blood as she walks through a burning prom has become an indelible image...

Kerry King just unveiled full details of his eponymous solo project, including the band lineup, the debut album, and the first single. At the same time, the guitarist also gave a brutally honest interview to Rolling Stone, declaring that fellow Slayer founder Dave Lombardo “is dead to me.”
When asked if he’s spoken with the drummer since Slayer fired him in 2013, King bluntly stated, “No. Lombardo is dead to me.” He went on to bring up the financial squabble that led to Lombardo’s sacking from the legendary thrash band.
“He went on that tirade when we were on a flight to Australia, and he knew we couldn’t retort for 14 hours, and he threw me under the bus,” said King. “I was the only one keeping him in the band. Tom [Araya] wanted him out before that, and [the late] Jeff [Hanneman] had just gotten the spider bite, so he wasn’t playing with us much.

Kerry King has announced his debut solo album, From Hell I Rise, arriving May 17th, along with the lead single “Idle Hands.” The guitarist has also unveiled the members of his post-Slayer band.
The official announcement comes years after King symbolically left his iconic chain onstage at the end of Slayer’s final concert in 2019 at The Forum in Los Angeles. At the time, King was quick to inform fans that he would be forming a new solo band to carry on the sound and ethos of Slayer — whose retirement King felt was “premature”.
“I knew early on that I wasn’t done,” remarked King in the press release for the album, “and I had no intention of not continuing to play.”

In 2005 and in 2007, director Tim Story made a pair of feature films starring the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel Comics' most superlative titles. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine!
Story's feature film adaptations were not very well received when they were released. 2005's "Fantastic Four" only bears a 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," only has a 38% approval rating. Moreso, Marvel Comics fans were harsh to Story's movies, hating their cartoony tone and corny scripts. It's worth acknowledging, however, that Story's...

Franchising is basically the bread and butter of the horror genre. It doesn't matter what critics think. It doesn't even matter if the iconic central villain is killed at the end of the movie. Where there's a will, there's a way -- and writers can always be persuaded to come up with new explanations for why their characters are put back in similarly horrific scenarios.
Within the genre, you could make the argument that sequels are the rule rather than the exception, and even subpar horror films often end up becoming franchises, whether their follow-up films are given a theatrical release or not. (Direct-to-video sequels are also a long-term staple for scary movies.) This is especially true for teen horror movies, since younger audiences have always been a target demographic for these types of films.
But every once in a while, you get a teen horror flick that's one-and-done, without a sequel on the horizon.

Things that stressed our parents didn’t worry us one bit and things we stressed about they found silly. Escape was found, as before and as still is, in horror movies. That year saw a few big releases, some great fun ones like eXistenZ, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid, some that were meant to be great like Virus, The Haunting and The Astronaut’s Wife, and a whole lot of middle of the road titles like The Bone Collector, Resurrection, and From Dusk Till Dawn 2. Directed by Rodman Flender – who also directed Leprechaun 2 and happens to be the uncle of Dune star Timothée Chalamet – from a screenplay by Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer, Idle Hands has the following synopsis: When slacker teen Anton Tobias has his right hand possessed by a demonic force, he finds that his life gets a lot more interesting. While Anton himself is an amiable guy, his hand proves to be an appendage of death, killing his two best buddies, Pnub and Mick, who return to life as wisecracking zombies. Yesterday, we shared an interview in which Robert Englund confirmed that his days of playing Freddy Krueger are over – and for his replacement in the role, Englund suggested an actor whose name comes up frequently when people fan cast a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie: Kevin Bacon. Bacon seems open to the idea, but there’s another actor out there who’s eager to take his turn wearing the glove and fedora. In response to the interview with Englund, Devon Sawa sent out a tweet saying, “I’d love to follow in his footsteps and play Freddie.” Forgive him for misspelling the name. It’s a common mistake.

Horror stalwart Devon Sawa (“Chucky,” Final Destination, Idle Hands) delivered a memorable turn in 2020’s survival horror Hunter Hunter. He’s set to return to the wilderness once more with Consumed, the latest horror movie by The Butcher Brothers.
THR reports that Sawa will play a “wild madman” the central married couple will encounter on a camping trip. Of course, it’s not the madman that’s the most significant threat; there’s something else in the woods with them.
Courtney Halverson (Unfriended, St. Agatha) and Mark Fariglietti (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) costar with Sawa as “Jay and Beth, a married couple taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.”

It's difficult to overstate the immediate and overwhelming effect that Wes Craven's 1996 film "Scream" had on pop culture. By the mid-1990s the slasher genre had pretty much come to an end. The most popular monsters of the 1980s were being deliberately killed off, as "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" and "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday" seemingly closed the door on their respective franchises. The slasher series that continued started to die of fatigue, as seen in clunky, underwhelming films like "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" and "Hellraiser: Bloodline."
Then, in December of '96, "Scream" came out and a new trend was immediately born. The Kevin Williamson-scripted "Scream" was a slasher movie, yes, but it was populated by teenage characters who all knew -- and spoke openly about -- the tropes of slasher movies. Everyone was wry, sarcastic, and understood the metafictional situation they occupied.

Why not celebrate accordingly? Let’s party like it’s 1999. We’re pairing each segment in V/H/S/99 with a horror movie from 1999, so you can keep the Y2K vibes going!
Kolobos – Pair with Maggie Levin’s “Shredding”
Levin’s opening segment in V/H/S/99 captures a ’90s MTV-style energy and aesthetic as it follows a group of pranksters with a Cky-like video series. The teens decide to break into an abandoned music venue for their latest mission for fame, and horror ensues.

In the sixth episode of “Hacks’” excellent second season, Deborah (Jean Smart) gets hit on at the bar by a man, Jason, who’s young enough to “be my son.” She flippantly tries to dismiss him, thinking he’s just talking to her because she’s famous, until he asks her what she does. “You really don’t know?” she asks, incredulous. “No,” he says, shaking his head. “Should I?” “No,” she replies with a glint in her eye. Jason might not know who Deborah Vance is, but Emmy voters should definitely know and nominate the man who plays him: Devon Sawa.
If you’re from a certain generation (read: old millennials), chances are you immediately clocked Sawa, who set many hearts aflutter in the ’90s as human Casper in 1995’s “Casper” opposite Christina Ricci before sharing another kiss with her in “Now and Then” later that year, and as...

Idle Hands: Sorrentino’s Sprawling Saga a Wayward Bildungsroman
There’s almost as much to admire as there is to dismiss in The Hand of God, Paolo Sorrentino’s most capricious film to date which swings so boldly between moods and tones it feels like a case of borderline personality disorder. Heightened autobiographical details may abound in this ode to fractured youth and cinefilia, but it revels in the realm of sentimental nostalgia, paying homage to early 1980s Naples.
Parsing through its various delights, Sorrentino once again borrows heavily from a Golden Age of Italian masters, and his latest often feels like a cobbling together of Fellini and Bellocchio.…...

After seven films and an ill-advised reboot, Chucky is set to deploy a new torrent of neighborhood carnage. The killer doll has gone through several reinventions over the years, but now that he’s back in the hands of original creator Don Mancini, he’ll find yet another unsuspecting family to terrorize in his very own TV series.
Chucky has certainly navigated a wild path to the small screen. The Child’s Play franchise started out playing the character straight by charting his efforts to get his murderous psychological hooks into innocent little Andy Barclay, but films one through three were also embracing a slasher genre that appeared to be on its last legs.
Even Mancini thought he may have reached the end of the road with 1991’s Child’s Play 3, but when the horror game changed with Wes Craven’s meta movie Scream in the late-‘90s, Mancini suddenly...

‘Never give up’ is a mantra we often apply to most facets of life, and rightly so. (The exception should always be watching the Witchcraft films; and one should pull that parachute early.) Jeremy Kasten’s The Attic Expeditions (2001) is a film that chased that dubious Hollywood rainbow and actually found the gold: a completed movie. Not a coherent one—by design—but completed. And it’s kind of a pip. Now Severin Films has put out this aughts curiosity with some fun extras and a solid transfer to boot. Let’s get crazy, shall we?

Since my parents inexplicably failed to instill in me a love for killing at an early age, I’ve never gone hunting. But I can imagine that it takes a lot of patience and exactitude before achieving the satisfaction of the final result.
Shawn Linden’s new thriller Hunter Hunter is a lot like that.
The film’s title is repetitive by design, providing a not-so-subtle hint that there will be more than one stalker of living creatures on display. The first of these in the 1990s-set story is Joseph (Devon Sawa, of Final Destination and Idle Hands), a fur trapper who lives with ...

Nostalgia for the ‘80s is gradually making way for a longing for the ‘90s, with the produce of the reboot mill following suit. Devon Sawa, the star of one of the most entertaining films of the decade, the horror comedy Idle Hands, has now put his backing behind a fresh take on the property if it’s updated to the present.
Released in 1999, the story follows Anton (Sawa), an almost unfathomably lazy stoner whose inactive nature leads to his hand becoming possessed by a demonic force (“idle hands are the devil’s playthings”) and begins acting independent of his will in order to kill anyone who comes near it. He tries to battle the hand’s new homicidal behavior with the help of his two best friends, the cute girl next door, and a foxy druid priestess, as violence and hilarity ensue.

Scream Factory recently announced that they’re putting out a new Blu-ray of cult 1990s horror comedy Idle Hands. Although not a commercial success on its theatrical release, Idle Hands has since built up a strong enough fanbase to justify the deluxe treatment from Scream Factory, who have now revealed that the collector’s edition will be packed with new features. Perhaps most excitingly, we’ll get a brand new cast commentary with Devon Sawa, Seth Green, Elden Henson, and Vivica A. Fox.
The Blu-ray is set to arrive on May 12th, 2020, and will also have a commentary track with director Rodman Flender, Green, and Henson. Other special features include an interview with Flender, who also provides commentary on deleted scenes, as well as separate interviews with Henson, Sean Whalen, and Christopher Hart, as well as writer Terri Hughes Burton. They say that Idle Hands are the devil’s playthings, but does the devil have Blu-ray? Well, if he doesn’t, he’s going to be missing out! The 1999 stoner-horror-comedy classic has been building its devoted cult following since its admittedly lackluster debut in theaters and now, this turn of the century flick is getting its “definitive” Blu-ray release on May 12th, 2020, per Scream Factory.
According to Bloody Disgusting, director Rodman Flender is coming back to provide new commentary and he also approved new artwork for the Blu-ray jacket, which looks pretty sick (see below). Scream Factory’s also working hard on securing cast members, like The Fanatic‘s Devon Sawa (who’s not Macaulay Culkin), Seth Green and Jessica Alba for some of the extra features. Only time will tell if they’ll return, but in the case of the first two, I would be kinda shocked if they didn’t pop up somewhere.

Want to re-invent a sub-genre? TV seems to be where it’s at right now, especially as far as the zombie world is concerned. The Walking Dead might’ve played things safe in its early seasons but the latest are anything but, and the same can be said for iZombie, Santa Clarita Diet, and hell, even the loveably trashy Z Nation. And while Eat, Brains, Love isn’t technically TV on the surface – financed, shot and screened by director Rodman Flender as a fully-fledged feature – it feels in look, tone and overall scope like the beginning of something much larger, for better or worse.
Flender’s name might be familiar to some as the one behind late-90s cult teen fave Idle Hands – a seriously loveable growing-pains horror-comedy that far too often falls by the wayside when discussing the best high-school movies of the 90s. Eat, Brains, Love isn’t...
