It's a trial all right...

Warning: Spoilers
Mean-spirited 'feminist thriller' in which the men are evil, weak, stupid or all three at once. The main script innovation seems to be the replacement of the usual helpless terrified female victim with a helpless grumpy one. It is difficult to find empathy with any of the uniformly unpleasant characters, and whilst the suspense is handled reasonably well, the 'surprise' ending will have you scratching your head in wonderment. How the protagonist was able to accomplish the various nefarious doings which plague photographer-journalist Rosemary in her isolated rural cottage beggars belief. Even so, despite some decent acting and direction, there are moments which are completely unfathomable and others which severely hamper identification with Rosemary. For instance, the part where she and her friend Frances run off happily laughing and skipping having crippled a farmer's dog drops a pretty big clanger. Anyway, 'Trial Run' works much better as a target for wisecracks than it does as a thriller, so watch it with some friends, add your favorite intoxicant and have some fun.
