More like Malice in Pussyland...
Foreverisacastironmess12311 September 2013
What in the holy hell!!? Okay, I'm gonna just get it out of the way, this beyond-bizarre animation, in which a psychedelic roller-coaster of distorting and grotesque body parts drags your perceptions on a hellish journey and back again, pretty much entirely comprises of a sort of collage and dimension of various vaginas... I don't mean to be crude, but there's just no way to say it but to say it! Anyway, there are numerous references right of the bat, so you just know it's going to be one unabashedly freaky and fun artistic trip! Trip is probably the best way to describe this screeching mad little retro work of art. From the look of things the artists must have been possessed when they put it together, and what a delightfully demented mess they made! It's a bit unnerving and amazing at the same time. And the coarse screaming that is heard a lot was so horrible and endless it becomes almost nerve-wracking! I'd dare say Malice loves drugs too much! The focus was entirely on the imagery rather than any kind of story, but I still wonder what it means.... Sex is bad? Have it, and risk your soul being sent screaming into acid trip hell where demonic vaginas will tear it asunder? It may be very small, but this short punches harder than Tyson! Over two decades old and although completely new to me, I doubt very much it's lost any of its capability to disturb or astound in equal measure. Brilliant, I loved it, it was just my type. Utterly insane!!!!!!

Rabbit Holes
Cineanalyst31 August 2020
"Malice in Wonderland" is the most sexual and psychedelic reworking on film of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" that I've seen since the ending of "Alice in Acidland" (1969)--and those are the only two films I've seen to be all three such things: pornographic, psychedelic and parody of classic children's literature, although a surprising number of pictures exhibit at least two of those aspects. Plus, it's animated--quite well, as it happens, although somewhat crude and grotesque. The transitioning between imagery does a good job of depicting a sense of falling down the rabbit hole (or whatever the orifice might be), and the transmogrification of the book allows ample opportunity for the sort one likewise finds in many cartoons.

The rabbit running inside, followed by Alice herself, it seems, her vagina isn't too far fetched, either, given the extensive scholarship and other interpretations on the supposed sexuality of "Alice in Wonderland." Vince Collins and company certainly grasp the suggestiveness from the book of Alice consuming edibles, including the mushroom and with some giving dictation of "eat me" and "drink me," which transform her and all of which takes on a phallic shape here. There's also the key and keyhole business. They miss an opportunity, however, by not including the incident of Bill the Lizard being kicked out of a chimney by Alice. Regardless, this, indeed, is a curious dream.

Very bizarre.

Overall, I enjoyed this short quite a bit. I'm generally not a fan of films/shows/etc. Which turn kids' shows into adult films since the concept been done to death, but I think this short managed to find a unique voice in tackling the subject due to how bizarre it is. A lot of the imagery in the film is memorable, with my favorite bits being those which play with dimension and scale, those which utilize the recursion effect (the woman somersaulting and the tea cup), and some of the phallic imagery. In spite of how much sexual imagery is crammed into this short, nothing feels out of place since the entire thing feels like a nightmare. Really, this is the kind of stuff that animation is made for since I can't see a live action short accurately recreating what this short does. Plus, the film is long enough so that it doesn't end too soon and short enough so that it doesn't overstay its welcome. While it doesn't break any new ground, it does manage to breathe some new ideas into a rather tired concept. I'm not sure if I would want to watch more animated shorts akin to it, but I'm glad I watched this one.

"Alice in Wonderland" On Drugs Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This has to be the craziest (And that's putting it lightly) "Alice in Wonderland" version that I've seen in my entire. In less than 5 minutes, it manages to be so surreal and insane that it almost would made Jan Svankmajer's "Alice" look like the Disney film from 1951.

In many ways, it feel like some kind of drug-induced hallucination (And perhaps that's the idea)displaying several disturbing imagery of sexual nature.

This easily surpasses in weirdness to all the other strange animations I 've seen in my entire life. It would be very hard for me to rate it, because I'm still not sure if I loved or hated this, but it certainly did not leave me indifferent. It is certainly something original, but definitely not for everyone.

I got it by mistake
Sylviastel16 April 2023
I was hoping for the 1982 live stage adaptation of the children's theater company production in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sadly I got this four minutes of animated erotica. I don't get it. It's a four minutes of bizarre and x rated fluff. So I got this instead online. I don't know what to say except that it is not for young viewers. I guess Alice is on drugs for the journey. You have no idea what it is going as there is no dialogue just wandering images flashing on the screen with jazz music as audio, I think it would have been revolutionary and groundbreaking in 1982 but not now. If I had known that this short film was coming to me, I would have cancelled it.
