A Great Canadian Half-True Story
stu_w25 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
It was only shown ONCE on CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), but I never forgot it when it was aired on Nov. 1988. The events shown were taken from Juliet Belmas's point of view, making it too one sided. She went through the role of acting like the uncertain and reluctant member drawn into the world of terrorism, but in reality, she was just as radical as the rest. Her 20 year jail term was evident of that - one of the most severe among the two women and three men the group was composed of.

Hats off to Micheal McManus though for giving one of the most super sexy and masculine performances ever as Brent Taylor - who received 22 years in prison.

His macho attitude was shown right at the beginning when he's addressing an audience of radicals at some political rally with his hands on his hips. At the end, you see a genuine look of humiliation and shame on his face during the group's arrest by a large team of RCMP constables, making me wish he could've won an acting award for that part. His tremendous sex appeal was one of the reasons why I never forget this film.

Nicky Guadagni as Anne, the most radical of them all, did a great job as well. Her extremely short 'G.I. Jane' haircut gave off vibes that she was more serious than the rest and, ironically, made her look perfect for a women's prison by the time of the arrest. Not surprisingly, she got Life Imprisonment.

This was a great movie and the cast was a great looking bunch. I just wish it could've had more 'in-depth' detail of them all (what was actually in their minds at the time) instead of Julia's one sided views of what really happened.
