Indeed Unless The Billboards Fall, I'll Never See A Tree At All
boblipton19 August 2020
This Lantz cartoon is a sequel to CRACKPOT CRUISES. Again, we take sail in a ridiculous cruise ship to enjoy a series of blackout gags and visual puns on a voyage to randomly-ordered ports of call around the world. This time, the jokes are sharper, the execution slightly neater, and we don't get to the portions offensive to modern audiences until the last minute. Actually, they were offensive in 1939; it's just that a. lot of people didn't care then.

Director Alex Lovey was a Lantz regular for a long time, eventually rising to direct the Woody Woodpecker shorts. He left in 1960, and went, as so many animators did, to Hanna-Barbera, where he produced THE JETSONS. He worked through 1988, and died in 1992, aged 78.
