A lacklustre raiding
TheLittleSongbird8 November 2019
First of all (also a general problem), if any review down-voting has to happen it should only be done if the person responsible has read the review(s) in question properly (or in my case even read the reviews at all, rather than just clicking no as you go along), actually seen the title(s) in question and if the other reviews for the title are read and given the helpful/not helpful treatment as well. Neither are happening clearly with me. And it certainly ought not as much as between a week to two months worth of writing in one sitting repeatedly for no reason (the reiteration has been addressed and the useful votes have nothing to do with me, a more likely reason is spite), some reviews with more than one "no" vote, within a ridiculously short period of time after the review is written.

Not unless you want the person affected to feel stalked and other people continue to be suspicious of the behaviour, those who have noticed deem it obsessive. That's not normal, it's insulting, callous and dishonest, not to mention violation, and it needs to stop completely (am to stayed away from indefinitely), unless contributing towards increasing health problems gives you pleasure which is a sickening thought but am getting that vibe. Anyway, that bit of irrelevance (am very sorry, but it had to be said) out of the way, Terrytoons Studios' output is very hit and miss but when seeing it as a completest it is also quite fascinating. Most of it ranges between mediocre and pretty decent, though there are cartoons of theirs that are more and also less. The Mighty Mouse cartoons, a mixed bag for me on the whole, up to this point of his series were generally watchable if very formulaic (though that is not the case for all, but it is for most). Though there was yet at this point to be one that was above decent level in a series that overall hit all those extremes and Mighty Mouse himself is a pleasant enough if limited character.

1945's previous cartoons are in the worth a one time watch but nothing special category. With 'Raiding the Raiders', the 1945 batch has its first misfire and one of its weaker cartoons. As far as the Mighty Mouse cartoons go, 'Raiding the Raiders' to me is in the lesser end. On the most part Terrytoons had actually improved quite a lot, regardless of the stories (never a strong suit for the studio) and characters the animation had advanced significantly and there have been cartoons where the gags were more and funnier. One does not get that with 'Raiding the Raiders', one feeling that the studio has gone backwards.

'Raiding the Raiders' best asset is the music, outstanding yet again and the component consistently good even in lesser outings such as this one. It is its usual lush and characterful self, not just adding to the action but enhancing it as well and also love how wild it is. The animation is equally great in quality, especially the backgrounds and landscapes, the characters are well drawn and the colours are really beautiful on the eye.

With the characters, the best by far are the vultures, they are the only ones to really have much of a personality and they are both fun and menacing, which does make for some splashes of fun and tension. It was also great to have different adversaries to cats which did make things a touch less predictable.

Mighty Mouse however for a lead character doesn't have enough to do and when he does have something to do it is fairly derivative of what he did in his previous cartoons. When he does appear, too late, it becomes very, very standard Mighty Mouse territory with the only difference really being different adversaries. Really do try not to make this a big thing, but for such a long running theatrical series to have a constant feel "if you see one Mighty Mouse cartoon and see others after you've seen them all" and very early on, it is a little tiresome.

As cute as the bunnies look and are, they are also very bland and not much more than veering on overly-cute animals. The conflict could have been more and so could have the gags, the too few there are not being very funny. In terms of momentum, it is routine and lacks energy.

In summary, lacklustre. 4/10

This Time, At Least, He Doesn't Beat Up Cats
boblipton22 March 2015
This time, at least, Mighty Mouse gets to beat up on vultures, who attack baby bunnies like a squadron of Stukas in this almost bearable Terrytoon.

The release date and the presence of rabbits makes me think this was intended for the Easter season. Other than that and the usual saccharine MM attitudes, there isn't much to comment on. Of course, vultures aren't predators, but scavengers, but the target audience for the series would not understand that distinction, nor care.

The staff tries to put in a couple of gags, like making the vultures Indians, complete with war drums, but the series had already descended into a rote exercise, with the animals cheering with exactly the same sound effect twice -- once at the birth of the bunnies and the other after MM has beaten up the bad guys. Perhaps you have fond enough memories of MM from your childhood to make this one worth watching again. I don't.
