My fair ladies ......
dbdumonteil8 November 2010
This version is superior to its remake by Jacqueline Audry in the fifties, probably because the cast is excellent:Renée Saint-Cyr shines as the courtesan eager to make her way of life through (old wealthy) men and whose motto is "lift" because her teacher of deportment spoke of "social rise";these lessons in deportment are real fun (shades of "Pygmalion/My Fair lady" ) particularly when the heroine 's bubble girl best friend Mademoiselle Amélie takes lessons ;too bad they cancelled the scene in the opera theater

.Raimu is the good clumsy bourgeois who is only a stage in Ginette's(later Genevieve's) social rise .The end of the story verges on drama when the "socialite" realizes that she's thrown away those foolish things, the simple joys which make a life worthwhile....but it's too late...

Filmed stage production...but why deny yourself a good thing?
