Sean “Diddy” Combs had Girls Trip fans screaming this summer when he made a cameo in the hit comedy, engaging in some bump and grind with Tiffany Haddish‘s firecracker character Dina in one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
But audiences weren’t the only ones surprised by the moment. Taped live in front of a crowd of tens of thousands during Diddy’s set at the 2016 Essence Music Festival at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the scene was fully improvised — leaving the movie’s stars Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Regina Hall and filmmakers shocked by what went down.

Award-winning gospel artist Jacky Clark Chisholm is excited to announce her support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
On August 8, 2017, Chisholm is scheduled to release her upcoming single “Cover Me” with all proceeds benefitting St. Jude, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
In an effort to further the belief of late entertainer, philanthropist, and St. Jude founder Danny Thomas that “no child should die in the dawn of life,” Chisholm is committed to supporting Danny’s dream of advancing cures, research, and prevention of childhood cancer.
Chisholm serves as an ambassador for St. Jude Sunday of Hope, which leads church congregations nationwide in donating to St. Jude via their Sunday offering services. Her achievements in gospel music include Grammy, Stellar, Dove and NAACP Image awards. In addition to being a philanthropist and artist, she is also a licensed nurse.

For six years, Jason Isbell was drunk at every show he played. During his tenure with beloved Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers, Isbell planned his drinking to keep him on his feet for the duration of the band's marathon live shows - barely. "I had it timed where, by the very end of the show, I'd done just about all I could do standing up," he told NPR in 2013. "I knew I needed two or three before I went on, and then during the show, we'd just pass a bottle around between the band." The routine totaled about a fifth of Jack Daniels per show.

Written and directed by Garrett Bradley, "Cover Me" is an experimental feature film shot in New Orleans and developed with artist Tameka Norris, who plays the lead. The film screens at International Film Festival Rotterdam next week and centers on "a young vocalist who returns to New Orleans, but can't find her way around. We see the city through her attempts at making contact and friends, earning money and playing her music." Says Iffr's website, "Based on 30 hours of material, Norris created a video installation in which she put herself in as many roles and situations as possible and Bradley created this modest, exceptional film that details the story of...

Earlier this month we published a list of 20 cover songs that became more famous than the originals. From Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You" to Sinead O'Connor's breathy remake of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2U," the list scanned some of the best renditions in music history.
There's another realm of cover songs we didn't include in the last post, however, which is where our list of unexpected covers comes in. We've put together the strangest and most unpredictable song selections of artists like Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and Dusty Springfield. Scroll through the list below and let us know your thoughts on the world of reimagined tunes in the comments.
1. "Hurt" by Johnny Cash (original by Nine Inch Nails)
"Hurt" was written by industrial rock icon Trent Reznor for Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album, "The Downward Spiral." Eight years later, Johnny Cash covered the song and his...

Classic disco tunes found their way into just about every corner of our culture, from 'American Idol' to Beyoncé's 'Naughty Girl.'

The death of Donna Summer on Thursday (May 17) at age 63 after a long battle with cancer has many reflecting on the impact the disco legend had on music.
While many may not realize it, Summer is the foremother of, well, just about every pop song on the radio today. Her iconic 1977 anthem "I Feel Love," which peaked at #6 on the Billboard singles chart (one of 14 top 10 hits), was the first mainstream song to be produced using an entirely synthesized backing track. Until then, most disco recordings had been backed by acoustic orchestras, and the reception to the song revolutionized music.

The narrator of Gin Phillips’ second novel is an expert on ancient cultures who fumbles through relationships among the living—and Come In And Cover Me doesn’t offer her much redemption on that point. Ren Taylor built her reputation on the discovery of a series of intricate pots belonging to long-gone Native American communities, so she isn’t surprised when an out-of-the-blue phone call yanks her away from her desk job as a museum director to check out an independent dig in New Mexico. Silas, the scientist helming the dig, shows her “sherds” that complement her findings, suggesting the ...

The last few years have seen Rebecca Hall take on some excellent roles, with The Town, her standout performance in Nicole Holofcener’s Please Give and her recent leading turn in The Awakening bringing her an ever-increasing audience.
Her next big screen role is set to be as Beth Raymer in Stephen Frear’s Lay the Favourite which, from what I’ve read, is about sex and gambling and sees Hall line up with Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Vince Vaughn. Until then we have this little gem to tide us over – a music video for James Blake’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case of You’ which features the actress going through the highs and lows of a relationship in the space of three minutes.
Seb Edwards directed the video and his command of lighting and space presents the perfect arena for Hall’s performance. The song didn...

Nicole Appleton forgets her husband Liam Gallagher is a rock star. The former All Saints singer doesn't recognise the ex-Oasis forntman's persona as a wild hellraiser because he's so 'normal' when he's at home with her and their 10-year-old son Gene. Nicole - who has been in a relationship with Liam since 2000 and married him in February 2008 - said: 'He's so normal. And he's so Gene's dad. It's funny to think of him as that (a rock star). He's an amazing guy.' The 36-year-old blonde is currently living in Canada with Gene as she presents new TV talent show Cover Me...

With the pending and long-awaited Blu-ray release of the Star Wars saga finally appearing on the consumer horizon, fans worldwide are wondering what will have been changed this time. Deleted scenes are to be undeleted, a new intro to Return Of The Jedi and the inclusion of much previously-lost material are said to be joining the usual VFX and production tweaks. Any substantial work on the hi-def version of the movies is likely to be finished or near-finished by now, and all suggestions moot, whether they would have been listened to or not.
Though I have enjoyed the various re-imagined releases since 1997, I personally still like the 1977 version of Star Wars (back when that was its name). There was nothing so irretrievably poorly-executed in it as to make Star Wars cry out for a fix the way that the 'bad stunt double' and 'spinner wires' were in Blade Runner. However,...

You Think They Talk About Gawker This Way?
Well, Christmas is almost upon us and I have to say this week I received just about the nicest gift I've received in a very long time. Actually, it was a gift for the whole staff and we got it from ... you guys!
TigerCub started a forum thread he titled Merry Xmas Ae Staffers that was all about saying thanks for the site and the work we do. And he even did caption pics for it! (Of course, picture captions are my turf, but I'm willing to make an exception this time.)
Reading the comments you guys left on the post about the site, well, it means a lot to all of us here. Writing for the online world can be a rough and tumble experience as folks are usually not shy about sharing their opinions. That's mostly a good thing as...

The "Call of Duty" franchise has had some memorable characters in recent years, from Captain Price to "Soap" MacTavish to "Ghost." My favorite of the bunch, though, is CIA Special Agent Hudson, voiced by Ed Harris. Repeatedly described as an "ice cube," Hudson is your unflappable handler and Harris does a fantastic job crafting the stone-cold character with his baritone, throaty delivery.
A little while back, we spoke with Harris about the experience of working on his first video game. "For me it was something...what the heck. Yeah, I had a good time. I mean, I almost lost my voice 'cause there's a lot of Ugh! Cover Me! On The Ledge Ugh!' Over There!"
In the interview, Harris was joined by Amy Madigan, his co-star in "What's Wrong with Virginia," who isn't much of a gamer, but exclaimed that with the success of games like "Call of Duty,...

Fox Alicia Keys with the remaining contestants
Just seven contestants remain as Idol headed into its over-the-top (but extremely worthy) Idol Gives Back extravaganza.
With the way this season is going, the Idols aren’t just competing against each other, but Ryan Seacrest, whose attention-grabbing antics are becoming part of the story. (My colleague Tracy Watson compiled a list for me today of Ryan moments, from tweeting results before the West Coast show to suggesting Brian Dunkleman was hosting part of Idol Gives Back.)
Still, no one will outshine this week’s guest mentor, the incomparable Alicia Keys. Good to know she will be back for Idol Gives Back on Wednesday night.
Casey James opened with an oldie: “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac. Ensemble songs are tough to sing, but Casey pulled it off. It sounded okay, a little like Lynyrd Skynyrd covering Fleetwood. Randy Jackson said it: It was good,...
