Ultimate Gangster Collection — Contemporary
Mean Streets
The Untouchables
Goodfellas
Heat
The Departed
Due Out: May 21, 2013
The “Ultimate Gangster Collection: Classics“ and “Ultimate Gangster Collection: Contemporary” are available on Blu-ray 5/21
Who’S It For?
My wife hasn’t seen Mean Streets, The Untouchables, Goodfellas or Heat. So while I would normally say this is the perfect gift for guys on Father’s Day, it’s really perfect for my wife. These are movies that must be seen by every adult. Not only to they showcase how the ugly side of society has evolved, but it’s also the evolution of gangster crime. Every one of these films is brilliant, and yes, I’m including The Departed. Jack Nicholson’s performance has someone gotten a bad rap. I’m convinced if it wasn’t for Martin Scorsese zooming in on the rat at the very end, everyone would still worship this film.

AMC Jon Hamm as Don Draper in “Mad Men.”
So, if things continue on this path, it’s safe to say there definitely might not be an NFL season this coming fall. And, if the glum news from AMC is correct, we won’t have a new run of “Mad Men” until 2012.
Which, to millions of Americans, stinks quite royally. No NFL Sundays? No “Mad Men” Sundays? What about all that suddenly spare time?

Canadian singer Drake might no longer involved romantically with Rihanna, but he still refers to her as his girl. Rick Ross' new single titled "Made Men" has just been debuted, and the "Best I Ever Had" hitmaker can be heard swapping rhymes about the red-haired Barbadian singer with "The Boss" rapper in it.
Rick first raps, "Two-door Bugatti coup, I call it Katy Perry. Wiz Khalifa papers, my favorite berries/ That '65, I call it Rihanna/ It got a red top but it's white like Madonna." In response, Drizzy spits, "Off the rack just ain't my style, I call a designer/ One of my baddest women ever, I call her Rihanna/ But that's because her name is Rihanna."
"Made Men" is reported to be the first single coming off Rick's upcoming fifth studio album, "God Forgives, I Don't". Def Jam has not confirmed it though. Nonetheless, Rick has premiered...

Another week, another episode of Burn Notice. This week's episode is entitled Made Men. As usual, this is a detailed recap, so if you haven't already viewed the show, spoilers abound.

Spy Observation: (Michael is sitting in at a table with Fiona and Sam) Spies come from all walks of life, and no two are alike. Whether they are a burned former operative, a beautiful bomber with a temper, or a hard drinking ex-seal, they all share one trait; punctuality. Showing up on time means you are fifteen minutes late.
The gang are sitting waiting for Jesse at a restaurant. They discuss why they are letting Jesse join their little merry gang. Michael reminds them that they are all investigating the same people, and since Michael burned him, it only seems fair. Sam doesn't understand the need for a counter intelligence agent.

On "Made Man," the team (now as a quartet) came face-to-face with a Miami mob boss who was well connected with a New York crime family.
While the plot was not exactly new, seeing how the new four-person unit dealt with it was still very much enjoyable.
I really like Jesse. I am not sure if creator Matt Nix wants to add a full-time cast member or if maybe USA might be looking for a spin-off. Either way, I would be in. The banter with him and Madeline was fun to see and I really liked that he finally gave in and told her who he was.
I was a little surprised that Jesse didn’t create more of a ripple in the “merry band” (as Sam put it). I really expected more differences of opinions on the first mission and maybe even some stepped-on toes. However, I am sure...

Has it really been 20 years since GoodFellas? Wow. Just think: Sam Jackson played Stacks in that film for a fleeting moment, and has appeared in 108 productions since. I'm not sure where I'd rank it all time, but GoodFellas is in the upper tier. In terms of crime films/mob movies, I don't think you can have a reputable top five list that excludes it. It's Scorsese at the peak of his powers, vintage De Niro, the perfect role for Joe Pesci, and somehow, an overlooked tour de force by Ray Liotta. And I haven't even mentioned "Layla" yet.

In recent years, I’ve been anything but supportive of cable TV network AMC (American Movie Classics). See, they used to be a great source for watching “old” movies of all kinds, uninterrupted and uncut. Unfortunately, and probably due in part to the needs of the current economy and market, AMC plays mostly 90’s films, mostly action-oriented and does not play everything in it’s entirety. On top of that, AMC now interrupts movies with commercial breaks. Hey, times are tough. So, I’ve become more of a regular viewer of TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and Fox Movie Channel, both of which still show old movies, uncut and uninterrupted. So, my point…
AMC first began making up for this (in my mind) with their original TV series, such as the popular series Made Men and Breaking Bad. I’ve not personally watched these shows, but do plan to catch them eventually on DVD.
