Let's Sing Along with the Warner Brothers
boblipton6 October 2018
Sing-alongs were long a feature of the movies. Back in the nickelodeon days, they would be done with a performer on the stage and the lyrics projected on the screen, leading the audience....and selling the sheet music after the performance. The Fleischers' Screen Songs, with their bouncing ball, began in 1924. Warner Brothers also offered occasional shorts in the genre. This is one of them, with the tunes pulled from the studio's library. It was a way to monetize that library and keep the songs fresh, meaning they could continue to be money-makers. It was also cheap to make, being largely composed of clips from old Warner Brothers movies.

The songs in this short are:

"Am I Blue" with Ethel Waters from ON WITH THE SHOW; "By A Waterfall" with the chorus from FOOTLIGHT PARADE; "Some Sunday Morning" with Bobbie Canvin singing for Alexis Smith from SAN ANTONIO; "A Girl in Calico" with Dennis Morgan from THE TIME, THE PLACE AND THE GIRL.
