- The player of this game can play one of two characters, Chris Redfield, or Jill Valentine. As I am more familiar with the Jill Valentine character play, this synopsis will follow her story arc.
The game begins with a prologue explaining that a series of bizarre murders occurred around the outskirts of the Midwestern city of Raccoon City. The Raccoon City's police force S.T.A.R.S special ops team, embark in the surrounding forest to investigate. The Bravo team was sent to investigate but went missing. The Alpha team were then sent to search and locate them. This team consisted of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Albert Wesker, and team leader, Joseph Frost. The force begins by spreading out through the forest at night. However, they are soon attacked by a pack of ferocious un-dead dogs, which tear Frost to pieces and pursue the rest of the team into a looming mansion. The helicopter pilot who brought them there, panics and flies off, abandoning them and leaving them stranded. The team takes refuge within the mansion, only for Chris to go missing mysteriously. Wesker suggests that they investigate the place and split up. Jill enters a dark room where she sees an un-dead zombie feeding upon a member of the lost Bravo team. Barry arrives and the two kill several attacking zombies. They then split up and investigate further.
Jill finds several un-dead zombies and dogs throughout the mansion, fighting and killing many of them. She also finds a wounded member of the Bravo team who has been bitten by a large and venomous snake. She gives him medicine and the two battle aforementioned snake before it devours him and slithers away. Distraught over the loss of this partner, but continuing her journey, Jill investigates the sewers and finds Bravo team leader, Enrico Marini, who explains to Jill that it was all a setup and that a traitor is among them before being shot to death by a figure in the shadows before he can explain anymore. Jill overhears Barry talking to an unseen figure in another room about "betraying STARS" and confronts him about it. He claims that he was just talking to himself which she does not believe and instead grows more suspicious of.
Jill later learns that the mansion is haven to many illegal experiments with biological weapons comissioned by the Umbrella corporation. She confronts Barry at gunpoint before being attacked by an undead abomination which the two fight and destroy. However, Barry then takes her hostage and brings her to the real man behind the conspiracy, Albert Wesker, who reveals himself as a double agent for Umbrella. He shows her a humanoid super-soldier beast known as the "Tyrant". Barry takes Jill's side and shoots Wesker in the soldier when he sees Wesker's plans to use the Tyrant to kill the rest of STARS. However, Wesker laughs and frees the creature, which knocks him unconscious, as he is premature and not yet trained in absolute loyalty. Jill sets the mansion in self-destruct and flees. The Tyrant pursues Jill and Barry, who meet and team up with Chris once more as they escape. The three make it out of the mansion as the sun rises. The helicopter returns for extraction of STARS, but not before the Tyrant attacks them.
After swatting both Barry and Chris aside, and injuring Jill, they realize that he is too great a challenge for them to destroy. Howver, the helicopter sends down a rocket launcher which Jill uses and blows the monster apart with a single explosion. Barry, Chris and Jill board the helicopter and fly off into the sky as the mansion explodes fantastically. This is the BEST ENDING. 2ND BEST ENDING- In this ending, Jill escapes with Barry, leaving Chris behind as the Tyrant and mansion is destroyed. 2ND WORST ENDING- Jill escapes with Chris escape as the only survivors, with the mansion still intact. As the helicopter leaves, it is revealed that the Tyrant is watching them escape from a distance. WORST ENDING- Jill escapes as the only survivor, Chris and Barry having been killed by the Tyrant who watches her escape in the helicopter from the mansion which is also left unscathed.
